**Saudi Arabia's Habbar Film Marketing Boards Sudanese Drama 'Blue Card' in Landmark International Coproduction**

Sudanese Drama 'Blue Card' SHOCKS Film World! Saud...

Riyadh-based Habbar Film Marketing (HFM) is making a bold move onto the global stage, announcing its involvement as a co-producer on *Blue Card*, an upcoming film by Sudanese director Mohammed Aloma. This marks a significant step for the Saudi company, signaling its ambition to not just distribute films, but actively shape them from the ground up.

*Blue Card* dives deep into the often-unseen lives of Sudanese refugees, exploring the agonizing decisions they face between building a life where they are, and the potential, but uncertain, promise of resettlement elsewhere. The story centers around a refugee in Cairo forced into a job at a nursing home, a situation that forces him to confront his past and make choices that will irrevocably alter his future. It's a timely and relevant narrative, particularly given the ongoing global refugee crisis. I find myself wondering how the film will handle the nuances of such a sensitive topic.

This drama isn't just any project; it's Aloma's directorial debut, backed by the experienced hand of Amjad Abu Alala, the director of the critically acclaimed *You Will Die At Twenty*. Aloma and Abu Alala co-founded Cairo-based Station Films, a driving force behind Sudan's burgeoning film industry that emerged after the ousting of Omar al-Bashir. Sadly, the country's current civil war is throwing a wrench into all that progress. It’s inspiring to see them continuing to create despite the difficult circumstances.

Station Films also gave us *Goodbye Julia*, the first-ever Sudanese feature to screen at Cannes. Aloma himself produced the Yemeni drama *The Burdened*. Clearly, this is a team with a track record of producing impactful, internationally recognized stories. Habbar Film Marketing is definitely aligning itself with some serious talent. This speaks volumes about their vision.

Habbar Film Marketing, launched just last year by the Saudi creative agency Habbar, aims to bridge the gap between local and international films, bringing them to Saudi audiences. The company intends to use its parent company’s knowledge of Saudi consumer habits to achieve that goal. It’s also a clear sign of Saudi Arabia’s growing investment in its own film industry and the wider MENA region as a whole. A smart play, considering the burgeoning market.

"This is exactly the kind of story Habbar stands for," the company proclaimed. "With *Blue Card*, Habbar Film Marketing formally opens its international co-production chapter, stepping from film marketing into global filmmaking partnerships." It's a bold statement of intent, showing they are ready to put their money where their mouth is.

The company previously supported Saudi filmmakers through the Red Sea Souk project incubator, offering a cash award and marketing services. The inaugural edition of the prize went to Saudi director Khaled Zidan’s *Green Corpse*. It's good to see them also supporting filmmakers at the domestic level.

For *Blue Card*, Habbar Film Marketing joins a powerful group of international co-producers. The film has also received backing from several prestigious institutions, including the El Gouna Film Festival’s CineGouna initiative, the Berlinale’s World Cinema Fund, and the Arab Fund for Arts and Culture (AFAC). I think this signals the broad appeal and importance that the film has.
