Well, folks, it looks like we finally have a date! After what feels like an eternity of teases, leaks (thanks to that infamous Insomniac hack), and outright speculation, Insomniac Games has dropped a bombshell: Marvel's Wolverine is officially slashing its way onto PlayStation 5 on September 15, 2026.
Wolverine Unleashed! September Release Date SHOCKS...
I know, I know, 2026 sounds like a lifetime away, but honestly, after the radio silence we've had on this project since its initial announcement back at The Game Awards in 2021, I’ll take it! Remember that brief but tantalizing cinematic reveal? Good times. We've been grasping at straws ever since, especially after the disappointment of no Wolverine appearance at the recent State of Play. So this announcement? A very welcome surprise.
Last year’s gory trailer definitely whetted our appetites, showcasing some of the locales we can expect to tear through as Logan, and revealing Liam McIntyre (JD Fenix from Gears!) as the voice behind the claws. I gotta say, McIntyre seems like a perfect fit. That gravelly voice is *chef's kiss* perfect for everyone’s favorite Canadian mutant.
And it sounds like Insomniac is going for a mature, gritty tone. The PlayStation blog post describes the game as a "global thriller," which hints at a potentially darker, more complex story than some might expect from a superhero title. We already know Mystique and Omega Red are going to be making appearances, which suggests some serious mutant mayhem is on the horizon. I'm personally hoping for some deep dives into Wolverine's past and some truly challenging boss fights. Bring on the Sentinels, I say!
Of course, this is a PlayStation 5 exclusive, so Xbox fans, you're out of luck (for now, anyway – never say never in this industry). But for those of us with a PS5, it's time to start clearing some space on the hard drive and preparing for a September filled with berserker rage. September 15th, 2026. Mark those calendars! I, for one, am incredibly excited to finally get my hands on this game. Let's just hope it lives up to the hype.
