Alright folks, buckle up, because we've got a juicy tidbit coming straight from the survival horror trenches. Seems even the folks at Capcom had their doubts about the Nintendo Switch 2's muscle when they started developing "Resident Evil Requiem." Director Koshi Nakanishi admitted as much, and honestly, I find it pretty refreshing. Transparency like that is rare these days.
RE Director SHOCKS Fans! Capcom's Switch 2 Doubts ...
Nakanishi straight up said that they "wondered if Requiem could run on it — and it did, with ease." He even confessed to a bit of disbelief initially, requiring a "triple take." That's a pretty strong endorsement, especially coming from a director who's probably seen his fair share of console limitations. It definitely paints a promising picture for the Switch 2's capabilities. And, let's be honest, a simultaneous launch alongside the PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S crowd is a HUGE deal for Nintendo. It hasn't happened in the mainline series in ages - not since Resident Evil Revelations hit the 3DS back in 2012, if you can believe it.
What I found even more interesting was Nakanishi's little anecdote about drawing inspiration from Zelda 2: The Adventure of Link. A Scarmiglione enemy from Resident Evil Revelations, apparently, owes its shield-wielding antics to those pesky armored soldiers from the NES classic. I love these little behind-the-scenes connections. It just goes to show you that inspiration can come from anywhere, even seemingly disparate genres. It's a fun reminder that these developers are gamers themselves, drawing on their own experiences and memories.
Now, on a less cheerful note, it sounds like Capcom's facing a bit of a leak problem. Spoilers are running rampant online, which is a real bummer for those of us who like to go into these games fresh. Capcom's promising to take "firm action" against the source, which, understandably, they attribute to illegally obtained copies. Nobody likes having plot twists ruined, least of all the people who poured their heart and soul into creating them.
To add fuel to the fire, Hideki Kamiya, director of Resident Evil 2, has weighed in with his trademark… colorful language. Let's just say he's not a fan of spoilers. "Deserve a thousand deaths" is a bit strong, even for Kamiya, but you get the sentiment. Nobody wants their gaming experience ruined, and hopefully, Capcom can get a handle on these leaks before the official release on Friday, February 27th. I'm definitely planning on going in blind, and I suggest you do too. Let's keep the surprises intact, folks!
