Hold onto your hats, folks! The legendary Robin Hood is back for another round of swashbuckling goodness. MGM+ has officially renewed "Robin Hood" for a second season, and from what we're hearing, it's going to be bigger and bolder than ever before. After a successful first season that apparently set records for the streaming service, we're about to get more action, more intrigue, and, of course, more attempts to redistribute wealth from the ridiculously rich.
Robin Hood Returns! What Peril Awaits in Season 2?...
Lionsgate Television and John Glenn's take on the classic tale seems to have really struck a chord with audiences. Starring Jack Patten as the titular hero, Lauren McQueen as Marian, and the always-intense Sean Bean as the Sheriff of Nottingham, the series has been praised for its fresh take on the familiar story. And while season one largely focused on the goings-on in Sherwood Forest and the immediate vicinity of Nottingham, season two is set to drastically expand its scope.
Forget just Sherwood Forest, we're talking about the royal courts of England, France, and even Rome! This isn't just a local outlaw rebellion anymore; it's evolving into a high-stakes battle for the soul of the entire kingdom. With the Angevin empire teetering on the edge, Robin and Marian will find themselves dealing with kings, queens, and all the political machinations that come with them. Word is, they'll even have to use the very tools of Norman power to protect the Saxons, which sounds like a delicious dose of historical irony.
While we're still waiting on official casting announcements for the new season, it's safe to assume that Patten, McQueen, and Bean will be reprising their roles. The rest of the cast, including Lydia Peckham, Steven Waddington, and Connie Nielsen, also brought a lot to the table, so hopefully, we'll see them back as well. "Robin Hood quickly became one of our top-performing original series of all time," said Michael Wright, global head of MGM+, clearly excited about the show's future. He also praised the "depth and authenticity" of Glenn's reimagining of the legend.
As someone who's always enjoyed a good Robin Hood story, I'm definitely looking forward to seeing where they take this next. Expanding the story beyond Sherwood Forest and into the wider world of medieval politics is a smart move, and the promise of more action and intrigue is certainly appealing. It's available on MGM+ in various countries, so check your local listings! John Glenn, Jonathan English, and Todd Lieberman are all returning as executive producers, ensuring a steady hand at the helm. This could be truly epic.
