Alright, folks, buckle up because nostalgia is about to hit you harder than Imhotep’s sandstorm! Twenty-five years – can you believe it? – after its initial release, "The Mummy Returns" is shambling its way back into theaters. And honestly, I'm not even mad. I remember seeing this in the cinema as a kid and being absolutely blown away. A brand new trailer just dropped, giving us a tantalizing glimpse of the action-packed sequel that solidified Brendan Fraser's action-hero status.

Mummy Returns Trailer: You Won't Believe What They...

For those who somehow missed the mummy mania the first time around, "The Mummy Returns" picks up a decade after the original. We find Rick O’Connell (Fraser) and Evelyn (Rachel Weisz), now married and living in London with their precocious eight-year-old son, Alex (Freddie Boath). Remember, this was peak Fraser. He was charming, funny, and totally believable as a swashbuckling adventurer. And Weisz brought that perfect blend of intelligence and vulnerability to Evelyn.

The plot, as only a Mummy movie could be, involves another ill-advised Egyptian expedition. This time, the O'Connells stumble upon the Bracelet of Anubis. This ancient artifact, formerly belonging to the Scorpion King (a very early, very CGI-enhanced Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson), grants its wearer control over his jackal army. Now, I’ll admit, the CGI hasn't aged particularly well, but at the time, it was groundbreaking...or at least, entertainingly ambitious. I can't wait to see how this looks on a modern cinema screen.

Things get really dicey when the bracelet attaches itself to young Alex, setting off a chain of events that includes a power-hungry cult, the resurrection of Imhotep (Arnold Vosloo, still terrifying), and the kidnapping of Evelyn. Cue Rick, Alex, and Evelyn's ever-reliable brother, Jonathan (John Hannah, providing much-needed comic relief), embarking on a globe-trotting rescue mission. They must contend with Meela Nais (Patricia Velasquez), the reincarnation of Imhotep’s ancient lover, all while trying to prevent Imhotep from conquering the world by defeating the Scorpion King. Honestly, trying to explain the plot to someone who hasn't seen it is half the fun.

The O’Connell family faces a relentless barrage of dangers, from high-speed chases to brutal combat and ritualistic sacrifices (it wouldn't be a Mummy movie without a few sacrifices, would it?). All this action is in their desperate attempt to save the world, and each other, from utter destruction. Stephen Sommers' "The Mummy Returns" will be back in US cinemas on March 27, 2026, for a limited time. So, dust off your fedoras, sharpen your wits, and prepare for a nostalgic trip back to ancient Egypt. Don't forget to check out the 25th-anniversary trailer, it's a great reminder of why we all fell in love with this franchise in the first place!
