Following a tough 2-0 road loss to Çorum FK this week, Ümraniyespor Manager Levent Açıkgöz pulled no punches about the challenges facing his team. He spoke to the press, acknowledging the defeat and the brutal schedule that led up to it. The Trendyol First League is a grind, and this week clearly took its toll.
Levent Açıkgöz Warns: Is This the Key to Survival?...
Açıkgöz started by congratulating Çorum FK on their victory. He provided a tactical overview of the match, noting the even play in the first half. "The game started, it was an evenly matched game," he said. "Neither team created many chances in the first half. We didn't concede any chances to Çorum FK, a team with a strong attacking line, in the first half." This, in my opinion, shows that Ümraniyespor came prepared defensively, at least initially.
However, the second half saw a shift in momentum. Açıkgöz pinpointed a penalty situation as a turning point. "At the start of the second half, there was a penalty situation. We fell behind because of that." It's always tough to come back from an early goal, especially on the road. As he was preparing to shake things up with substitutions, another blow landed. "We conceded a goal just as we were about to make changes to the game." Ouch. Talk about bad timing.
Despite the setback, Açıkgöz made the substitutions and saw some improvement. "After the substitutions, the game was balanced again," he explained. But just when it seemed like they might claw their way back, a costly turnover resulted in another Çorum FK goal. He lamented, "This time, we conceded a second goal after losing possession." You could almost hear the frustration in his voice.
The manager emphasized the critical importance of every remaining match for Ümraniyespor. Their survival in the league is on the line. “We are sad to have lost the last match in this busy schedule, in a week where we played three matches. Every match is very important for us in terms of staying in the league." It's a high-stakes situation, no doubt.
Looking ahead, Açıkgöz is focused on preparing his team for their next match against Bandırma. "We will prepare well for the next Bandırma match and do everything we can to win," he stated. Bandırma will be a crucial game, a must-win in their quest to avoid relegation. Let’s hope the team can regroup and put in a strong performance. The pressure is definitely on.
