Okay, folks, grab your oversized coffee mugs and get ready for a dose of nostalgia! Sacred Heart Hospital is officially reopening its doors. That’s right, "Scrubs," the comedy that expertly blended slapstick humor with surprisingly poignant moments, is making a comeback on ABC, premiering February 25th. And yes, the core cast is (mostly) back!
'Scrubs' Revival SHOCK: Beloved Doctors Back! What...
We're talking Zach Braff as the daydreaming J.D., Sarah Chalke as the ever-anxious Elliot, and Donald Faison as the incredibly cool Turk, all returning as series regulars. Prepare for more bromance, awkward medical analogies, and questionable fashion choices from Dr. Reid. Just thinking about it brings a tear to my eye (of laughter, of course!).
Now, here’s the slightly bittersweet news: Judy Reyes, our beloved Carla, and John C. McGinley, the sardonic Dr. Cox, will be back, but only in recurring roles. Bummer, right? The reason? They're busy bees! Reyes is starring in ABC's "High Potential," and McGinley is attached to "Rooster" on HBO, ironically created by "Scrubs" mastermind Bill Lawrence. Deadline reports Reyes will be gracing our screens in four episodes of this nine-episode revival, while McGinley will appear in three. But hey, any Dr. Cox is good Dr. Cox, right? And let’s not forget that Neil Flynn and Christa Miller are slated to guest star as the Janitor and Jordan respectively. Chaos will definitely ensue!
The elephant in the room, or rather, the empty office chair, is that of Ken Jenkins. The legendary Bob Kelso won't be part of this initial revival. At 85, he retired from acting a few years back. But don’t despair! Bill Lawrence has assured us that "Dr. Kelso will be back next year," if the series gets renewed for a second season. "It just didn’t work out this year, but it will next year," he stated. We're holding you to that, Bill! I, for one, miss the Kelso zingers and his secret soft spot.
Lawrence seems genuinely excited, practically giddy, about bringing the old gang back together. "I would do it in a heartbeat because they’re such great performers," he said. "I’m a TV fan, I enjoy watching 'Scrubs' uber fans’ brains melt a little bit, so I would be open to anyone coming back." With only nine episodes this first year, they’re squeezing in as much as possible, he added. Clearly, there are a lot of stories to tell.
When we last saw J.D. and Elliot, they were newlyweds expecting their first child. Carla and Turk were knee-deep in raising their two daughters. Fast forward 16 years, and the revival will explore their lives navigating parenthood… but with even *more* children in the mix. Prepare for the chaos! The revival will delve into Carla's return to the hospital after leaving to raise her family, showing the challenges of being a working mother of four. Speaking of commitment, McGinley put it best when asked if he'd return for future seasons: "F*ck yeah, that’s as good as it gets." Amen to that, Dr. Cox!
