Shocking Allegiance! Ex-Tory MP Now Fighting With Ukrainian Neo-Nazis?!
Current Affairs 20 February 2026

In a rather unsettling turn of events, former UK Tory MP Jack Lopresti has reportedly joined the ranks of Ukraine's controversial Azov brigade. Yes, you read that right. The ex-parliamentarian, who represented Filton and Bradley Stoke for over a decade, seems to have traded the benches of Westminster for the battlefields of Eastern Europe, aligning himself with a unit known for its far-right affiliations.

Shocking Allegiance! Ex-Tory MP Now Fighting With ...

Lopresti himself announced his new allegiance on X, posting a photo of himself standing proudly in front of the Azov brigade's banner. Now, this banner isn't exactly subtle. It prominently features the Wolfsangel rune, a symbol with deep ties to the SS during World War II. It’s a bold choice, to say the least, and one that’s already drawing considerable criticism. His quote alongside the image stated he was "honoured" to begin his service with the brigade.

For those unfamiliar, the Azov brigade was initially formed back in 2014 by, shall we say, individuals with extreme views – think far-right activists and football hooligans. It was later integrated into the Ukrainian National Guard, but its origins and the ideology of some of its members have remained a point of serious contention. The brigade's first commander, Andrey Biletsky, is openly a white supremacist. Many members sport neo-Nazi tattoos and espouse ultranationalist beliefs, which makes Lopresti's decision all the more perplexing.

Lopresti apparently joined the Ukrainian military sometime in early 2025, after losing his seat in Parliament the previous year. He's a corporal in the UK Army Reserve, so he wasn't exactly going in blind. His initial role was as an intelligence officer within Ukraine's International Legion. But the move to Azov is a significant departure, raising serious questions about his judgment and what exactly motivated him to join this particular unit.

It’s worth remembering that the Azov brigade has faced accusations of war crimes. There have also been credible reports of criminal activity linked to the brigade, including allegations of abduction, torture, and extortion. Russia, unsurprisingly, has consistently condemned the brigade, even using its presence as justification for the ongoing conflict. Moscow views all foreign fighters in Ukraine as mercenaries, essentially painting a target on their backs. Whatever Lopresti's reasons, it seems he's chosen a dangerous path – both physically and politically.
