Alright football fans, buckle up. The NFL Scouting Combine is breathing down our necks, and you know what that means: Mock draft season is officially in full swing. Here at FOX Sports Research, we've been burning the midnight oil to bring you our pre-combine projection for the first round of the 2026 NFL Draft. Things are still fluid, naturally, but we're ready to stick our necks out and make some calls.
NFL Draft Shocker! Chiefs' Bold Move Stuns Analyst...
The buzz is definitely building around one particular quarterback projected to go #1 overall, but beyond that, it's a free-for-all. We're talking about the next crop of potential superstars, guys who could redefine franchises for years to come. The combine in Indy next week is going to be HUGE. It'll separate the wheat from the chaff, and give us a much clearer picture of who’s ready for the big time. Will another QB rise up the ranks to solidify themselves as a top-10 pick? Is linebacker Arvell Reese really the best non-QB prospect? These are the questions we're all asking.
So, without further ado, let’s dive into some of the names you're going to be hearing a lot about in the coming months. First up, quarterback Mendoza. This kid is generating serious heat. Geno Smith's recent struggles in Seattle, particularly those pesky interceptions, have the Seahawks looking for a long-term solution. Mendoza, with his rocket arm and surprising mobility for a guy that size, could be exactly what they need. He's coming off a Heisman-winning season, throwing for a ridiculous 41 touchdowns. Keep an eye on him.
On the offensive line, Mauigoa is a name that stands out. Arizona's offensive line was a sieve last season – 59 sacks allowed is just unacceptable. Mauigoa is a blue-chip prospect who has only allowed three sacks in nearly 1,100 pass-blocking snaps, according to PFF. He's got the size and athleticism to play multiple positions, which is a huge plus. Then there's Fano, another offensive tackle, who boasts similar impressive stats in pass protection.
Defensively, Bain is an absolute beast on the edge. He's a dominant run-stopper with the ability to rush the passer effectively. PFF grades him as one of the best in the nation in both categories. Downs, a versatile defensive back who's played all over the field, is another name to watch. His ability to line up at multiple positions makes him a valuable asset. I'm personally really interested to see how Downs tests at the combine, that will tell us a lot about his true potential.
And of course, you can't forget about the wide receiver talent. Tate, from Ohio State, fits the mold of the big, physical receiver we've seen come out of that program in recent years. At 6'3" and 195 pounds, he has the size and athleticism to be a game-changer. We'll be breaking down the full mock draft and analyzing all the potential scenarios in the coming weeks, so stay tuned. The road to the 2026 NFL Draft is just beginning, and it's going to be a wild ride!
