Invincible fans, get ready for a deeper dive into a brand new hero! Robert Kirkman and Cory Walker, the dynamic duo behind the *Invincible* comics that launched a thousand memes and a hit animated series, are joining forces once again. This time, they're exploring the origin story of Ella Mental, a key character set to debut in the upcoming *Invincible VS* fighting game.
Invincible's Ella Mental Origin REVEALED! Kirkman ...
Ella Mental, as in, she messes with your mind… well, not exactly. Her powers are actually elemental in nature, giving her command over the classic quartet: air, fire, earth, and water. Think Avatar, but with a distinctly *Invincible* edge, I suspect. We’re talking potentially brutal fight scenes and probably some darkly comedic moments sprinkled throughout.
The cool part? Her origin story won't be a standalone project. Instead, it will unfold as a recurring backup feature within the pages of *Capes*, a Skybound series also nestled in the *Invincible* universe. For those who haven’t been following, Skybound is currently re-releasing the remastered original six issues of *Capes*, originally penned by Kirkman and Mark Englehart. It's a good time to jump in, folks.
Now, *Capes* #7 is where things get *really* interesting. Co-writer Benito Cereno is joining the series as it moves into fresh storylines. This coincides perfectly with the launch of Kirkman and Walker's Ella Mental narrative. Smart move by Skybound, tying these things together. You get a new storyline, a new character, and a reason to pick up two books instead of just one. Classic comics synergy!
"I’m so excited *Capes* is continuing to tell stories set in the Invincible Universe but why not also GROW the Invincible Universe at the same time?!" Kirkman exclaimed in the press release. He continues, "It’s great to be working with Cory Walker again, creating a new character, in Ella Mental. You’ll love her in *Invincible VS* when that game launches, and you’ll get to read her origin story in *Capes*. How cool is that? I plan to be creating characters with Cory Walker forever!" Walker echoed the sentiment, adding he was "Thrilled to team up with Robert one last time to bring an original character to life.” One last time? I hope that's just a figure of speech!
This announcement is just the latest in a flurry of *Invincible*-related activity. *Invincible VS* is slated for an April release, while the highly anticipated fourth season of the animated series hits Prime Video on March 18th. Oh, and *Invincible Presents: Battle Beast*, the Kirkman and Ryan Ottley spinoff comic, is also making a comeback in March. Basically, if you're an *Invincible* fan, your plate is about to be *very* full.
So, mark your calendars! The Ella Mental backup story will run in *Capes* #7-12, with issue #7 hitting shelves on May 27th. As always, pre-orders are available at your local comic shops. Get those pre-orders in, folks! You don't want to miss out on the beginning of what could be a major new addition to the *Invincible* universe.
