If you're not deep in the board game scene, the sheer number of new releases each year is frankly, astonishing. Unlike video games, where you might be looking at a hundred-ish titles, board game releases are *far* more numerous. Right now, Board Game Geek, the hobby's massive online repository and forum, lists approximately 2,500 games and expansions slated for release in 2026. I've spent the last few days sifting through the listings, and here are 15 standout upcoming Board Games that I'm excited to (hopefully) play this year, and that I think others will find interesting as well.
2026 Board Games: The 15 Titles You NEED to Know A...
Brass: Pittsburgh
Following the original *Brass: Lancashire* and the widely popular *Brass: Birmingham*, this third installment moves the series to the United States during the industrial Golden Age of the 19th century. While details remain somewhat scarce regarding new mechanics (they're keeping things close to the vest!), expect another compelling economic management game as you develop your rail network, forge deals, build your system, and generally become the ruthless industrial powerhouse you've always aspired to be. I'm a sucker for a good engine-building game, and the *Brass* series is already a favorite, so this one's an easy add to my wishlist.
Avalon: The Riven Veil
Based on Arthurian legend, *Avalon: The Riven Veil* from Shadowborne Games puts you in control of factions like the Fey, Guinevere and the Knights of the Round Table, Merlin and the Druids, and more. The goal? Compete to capture territory and unveil the mists shrouding the mystical land of Avalon. With a clever blend of card play and territory control, and a map that *changes* each round, *Avalon* seems to be offering something fresh. Shadowborne Games previously found success with *Oathsworn*, and *Avalon* looks set to be a standout release in 2026, promising intense gaming nights. I personally like the concept of a changing map - keeps things interesting!
World Order
Publisher Hegemonic Project Games is known for creating mechanically deep, historically topical, and often thought-provoking games. Their previous release, *Hegemony*, placed players in the roles of various social classes in the United States, each pursuing their own goals. With *World Order*, they're taking their "teaching by playing" approach to the global stage. Each player assumes the role of a global superpower, utilizing diplomacy and leveraging their country's economic and military strength to expand influence. *World Order* appears to be a *complex* game, but if you enjoy heavily strategic experiences that require a lot of brainpower, this one might be right up your alley.
DC Super Heroes United
Take control of iconic DC heroes like Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman to foil the evil schemes of villains like Darkseid and the Joker in this cooperative title from CMON. Based on their accessible *Marvel United* system, *DC Super Heroes United* offers a wealth of content that's enjoyable regardless of your board gaming experience. With numerous combinations and expansions featuring different teams of characters and villains, *DC Super Heroes United* should be on your radar if you're a fan of DC or just enjoy cooperative Board Games that aren't *too* taxing. My nephew is a huge DC fan, so I'll probably be picking this one up for him (and, okay, maybe for myself too).
Everdell Emerland
The adorable critters of *Everdell* return in *Everdell Emerland* from Tycoon Games. The *Everdell* games are excellent worker-placement and engine-building titles... wait, I seem to be cut off here!
