Maduro Torturer HIDDEN in US Detention Centers?! What Happens Now?!
Current Affairs 18 February 2026

Rafael Quero Silva, an alleged Maduro regime torturer, sits in a Miami ICE detention center. The irony, of course, is thick enough to cut with a knife. Here’s a man accused of horrific human rights abuses under a dictatorial regime, now facing the very real prospect of deportation back to the very place he supposedly inflicted so much pain. But that's not the only twist. He's also being sued in U.S. federal court by five Venezuelans who claim he orchestrated their Torture.

Maduro Torturer HIDDEN in US Detention Centers?! W...

Quero Silva, a former Lieutenant-Colonel, commanded Detachment 47 of the Bolivarian National Guard, a unit accused of brutally suppressing dissent following the contentious 2013 Venezuelan elections. Those elections, you might recall, were a nail-biter, with Nicolás Maduro narrowly edging out Henrique Capriles. The result? Widespread protests, met with a heavy hand.

Now, those who say they suffered under his command are seeking justice. The 31-page complaint paints a chilling picture. The plaintiffs allege systematic Torture at the National Guard headquarters in Barquisimeto. We’re talking severe beatings, electric shocks, simulated executions – the kind of stuff that nightmares are made of. The suit claims Quero Silva either directly participated or, at the very least, turned a blind eye to it all.

Reading through the accounts, it's hard not to feel a sense of outrage. One plaintiff claims to have been beaten senseless with a riot shield and then tear-gassed in a tiny room. Another alleges being shot in the abdomen. Still another says he was peppered with rubber bullets in the back and face. These aren't just scrapes and bruises; these are serious injuries that required surgery and, in some cases, left permanent disabilities. They claim they were deprived of food, water, and medical care, held in filthy conditions, forced into excruciating positions, and subjected to humiliating searches.

The legal team representing the plaintiffs, a partnership between Guernica 37 (an international law firm specializing in human rights cases) and a Miami-based firm, is seeking both compensatory and punitive damages. It's a long shot, perhaps, but it's a crucial step in holding individuals accountable for human rights violations, no matter where they occur. Whether Quero Silva is ultimately deported or remains to face these allegations in a U.S. court, this case shines a light on the dark corners of authoritarian regimes and the long reach of justice.
