Coin Celebrates 20 Years of Remembrance: A Royal British Legion Milestone!

Coin, Malaga – Time flies, doesn't it? The Coin Branch of The Royal British Legion (RBL) recently celebrated a pretty significant milestone: its 20th anniversary. The party, held at Venta Los Arcos on January 27th, was a chance to look back at two decades of service to the British Armed Forces community here in the Guadalhorce Valley.

Chairman Jo Taylor took the stage to address the crowd, reminiscing about the branch's history. It's quite a story, actually. At one point, the Coin Branch had over 200 members! That really speaks to the size and vibrancy of the expat community back then. Times change, of course, and membership has naturally ebbed and flowed, but the core mission remains as strong as ever.

And what is that mission? To provide unwavering support to British Armed Forces veterans, serving personnel, and their families. The RBL isn't just some stuffy old organization; it's a lifeline for many. They offer financial assistance, social connection, emotional support, and, crucially, welfare services. It’s a safety net when people need it most. That's something worth celebrating.

The Coin Branch keeps busy. They hold regular meetings on the first and third Wednesdays of each month at 11 am at Restaurant Miralmonte. It’s not all serious business, though. They also organize social events like dining outings, whist and crib games, and even photo competitions! Keeping connected is key, and they do a good job of it, even with an active presence on Facebook (Royal British Legion Coin Branch). It’s a great way to stay in touch and see what's going on.

A big moment of the anniversary celebration was the presentation of the Legion Gold Badge to Jo Taylor. This isn't just any award; it's a real honor, recognizing exceptional service. Margery Taylor MBE, the newly elected chairman of the Spain South District, presented the award and emphasized just how rare and prestigious it is. It's a testament to Jo's hard work and dedication to the branch and district committees over the past 20 years. Well deserved, I reckon.

The Royal British Legion relies on local branches like Coin to reach those who need help. Whether you're a veteran, a serving member, or simply someone who believes in remembering those who served, the Coin Branch welcomes you. Go along to a meeting, join an activity, or connect with them on Facebook. Every bit of support makes a difference. It ensures that no one who served is ever forgotten, and that's a powerful thing.
