Alright gamers, buckle up, because we’ve got a seriously spicy Indie announcement to dissect. A new 2D platformer called "Kettlebell: Inferno Hotel" is about to throw its hat – or should I say pitchfork? – into the ring, and the announcement trailer just dropped. And let me tell you, it's got that old-school 16-bit charm cranked up to eleven.
Kettlebell Inferno Hotel Trailer Drops! Prepare to...
The game screams '90s nostalgia, and that's a *good* thing. Think pixelated goodness meets Dante's Inferno with a healthy dose of dark humor. And the best part? It’s coming to just about everything: PC, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, PS4, and PS5. No one's getting left out of this fiery party.
So what’s the story? You play as Mr. K, described as your average, run-of-the-mill office worker. Picture a guy who probably brings his own Tupperware to lunch and meticulously alphabetizes his desk supplies. Now imagine that guy getting a one-way ticket… not to heaven, but to hell. Apparently, a “bizarre accident” is to blame, which honestly, I'm already intrigued by. The Inferno Hotel is where he ends up, a delightfully twisted reimagining of the circles of hell as… well, hotel floors. Each floor has its own theme, its own vibe, and presumably, its own set of ridiculously challenging obstacles. I'm personally hoping for a lobby floor with particularly rude bellhops.
Mr. K, bless his cotton socks, isn't just going to roll over and accept his fate. He's on a mission to see the Boss, presumably to complain about the accommodations. But naturally, things aren’t that simple. Pandemonium has erupted (as it tends to do in hellish hotels), and the floors are all locked down. Mr. K has to navigate a series of trials, jump his way through increasingly insane levels, and generally cause a ruckus to get his appointment. I suspect this is where the "Kettlebell" part comes in. Are we wielding deadly fitness equipment? Only time will tell.
For those of you itching to get your hands on this thing early, you can register for the Steam Playtest right now. Seriously, go do it. I know I am. Based on the trailer, "Kettlebell: Inferno Hotel" looks like it could be a blast, a perfect blend of challenging gameplay, quirky humor, and nostalgic visuals. Keep an eye out for more news as we get closer to the release. This is one Indie title I'm definitely keeping on my radar!
