Growing Up a NASCAR Fan, Michael Jordan Enjoys the Ultimate Victory

Michael Jordan's NASCAR Gamble Pays Off HUGE! What...

Daytona International Speedway (Daytona Beach, Fla.) — Michael Jordan, arguably the greatest basketball player of all time, found himself at the pinnacle of a different kind of competitive world Sunday. It wasn’t on the hardwood, but on the asphalt of the Daytona 500, celebrating a monumental victory for Tyler Reddick, driver of the No. 45 Toyota Camry for Jordan’s own 23XI Racing.

Jordan’s affinity for NASCAR isn't some recent, celebrity-driven dalliance. It's a deep-rooted passion tracing back to his childhood. The Jordan family – parents and siblings in tow – regularly made pilgrimages from North Carolina to famed tracks like Talladega, Darlington, and Rockingham. They weren’t just casual observers; they were cheering fans of legendary drivers like Richard Petty and Cale Yarborough. You know, back when racing was truly raw.

That boyhood enthusiasm morphed into something far more significant when Jordan teamed up with Joe Gibbs Racing driver Denny Hamlin to launch 23XI Racing in 2021. The team name, a clever blend of Jordan's iconic jersey number (23) and Hamlin's car number (11), immediately signaled this wasn't just a vanity project. Jordan was serious about competing.

And while Hamlin remains a vital partner, there's little doubt Jordan holds a special fondness for the No. 45 driven by Tyler Reddick. Reddick’s nail-biting, last-lap pass secured the 2026 Daytona 500 win on Sunday, giving Jordan his biggest NASCAR triumph to date. (Yes, I know it's not 2026, but let's just say we're looking into the future!)

Jordan was beaming, positively radiating joy as he celebrated Reddick's victory. It was almost like seeing him after another NBA championship. The win was also a pretty sweet early birthday present for Jordan, who turns 63 in a few days. He was genuinely moved, exchanging high-fives and hugs with team members before jointly hoisting the coveted Harley J. Earl trophy with Reddick. It was a moment of pure exhilaration.

This level of excitement wasn’t new. Jordan displayed similar enthusiasm a couple of years back when celebrating his first in-person race victory. That pride was amplified later that year when Reddick clinched the regular-season title. "I can't even believe it," Jordan exclaimed, perfectly capturing the surreal nature of the moment. "It was so gratifying. We had four guys that were really fighting, helping each other out. You never know how these races are going to end. You just try to survive."

Reddick himself is acutely aware of the doors Jordan's involvement opens. As a Jordan Brand athlete, he frequently sports eye-catching paint schemes inspired by the iconic sneaker line. Furthermore, following Kurt Busch's concussion, Reddick managed an early release from Richard Childress Racing, expediting his move to 23XI. It's clear that being associated with Jordan, both as an owner and a brand, carries significant weight in the NASCAR world.

"Denny and Michael, those two have believed in me for years," Reddick said, acknowledging the pivotal role they’ve played in his career. "They've wanted me to be a part of 23XI. It's a mix of can we come through on the promises that I made for them and they made for me type of thing. They believed in me a lot, and they wanted me to be here, part of 23XI really badly. We made it all work. These are the type of moments that I'm supposed to deliver on them for, and it's just nice to be able to do that." And deliver he did, bringing 23XI their first, and likely not their last, Daytona 500 victory.
