LIV Golf Adelaide witnessed an absolute stunner this weekend as Anthony Kim, against all odds, roared back to claim his first tournament win in a staggering 16 years. Yeah, you read that right - 16 years! The tournament was held this past Sunday, and honestly, I still can't quite believe it. It's the kind of story that makes you remember why you love sports.
Anthony Kim WINS?! Golf World STUNNED By Comeback ...
Kim, whose personal and medical struggles have been well-documented, capped off his improbable victory at The Grange with a blistering nine-under final round. His mantra? Just "1% better every day." Talk about perseverance! This win wasn't just a feel-good story; he outplayed some serious heavy hitters in the golf world, including Jon Rahm and Bryson DeChambeau, to get that trophy.
After a 12-and-a-half-year hiatus – that’s basically an eternity in professional sports – Kim returned to competitive golf in 2024 with LIV Golf. Let’s be honest, his early performances were…rough. But something clicked. The former prodigy clearly rediscovered that magic, and the culmination was this remarkable victory. "I'm very overwhelmed with this feeling right now," Kim said afterwards. He even had visa issues and was a last-minute signing with 4Aces GC right before the tournament. You can't make this stuff up!
But hold on, the story doesn't end there. While Kim's individual triumph was certainly the headline, the hometown Ripper GC, led by captain Cameron Smith, snagged the team title. Can you imagine the energy? The Adelaide crowd went absolutely bonkers for their team. Ripper GC edged out Rahm's Legion XIII by just two shots. They've become quite the force, securing their second home win in just three years. Marc Leishman led the charge with an incredible 7-under 65, along with strong performances from Lucas Herbert and Elvis Smylie, not to mention Smith's steady 2-under.
"Unreal. So good," Smith exclaimed. It was clear how much this meant to him and the team. "We had a training camp before the season, and this was our goal, to win this event, and we did it. It's pretty special when you tick off a goal this early in the season." Ripper GC also won the season opener in Riyadh, becoming the first LIV Golf team to win the first two tournaments of a season. So, they're definitely a team to watch.
Kim's final round was a masterclass. Overcoming a five-shot deficit to Rahm and DeChambeau, he finished at an impressive 23 under. DeChambeau struggled early on with bogeys, and Rahm couldn't quite hold onto his lead. Kim pounced, firing birdies on Nos. 4, 5, 7, and 9 to close the gap, showing the world he's truly back.
