Apple is gearing up for a major product refresh, folks, and that means saying goodbye to some familiar faces. Word on the street, or rather, the digital grapevine, is that the tech giant is planning to discontinue four models from its current lineup in February and March as it rolls out its next generation of goodies. This isn't exactly shocking – it's classic Apple, really – but the specific models on the chopping block are definitely worth noting.
Apple Kills 4 Products! What's Replacing Them Will...
According to sources whispering in the ears of tech journalists, Apple is prepping to halt both production and official sales of these existing models *before* announcing the shiny new ones. This makes perfect sense, right? Why keep older models hanging around when you're trying to push everyone towards the latest and greatest? It streamlines the product range and, let's be honest, creates a nice little bit of FOMO to get people upgrading.
First up, it looks like the iPhone 16e, Apple's current attempt at an "affordable" iPhone (affordable in Apple terms, anyway), is nearing the end of its road. Rumor has it we might see the iPhone 17e as early as the end of February. The expectation is a faster processor, a better camera – you know, the usual upgrades – while keeping the price point relatively similar. Keeping the 16e around after that would just cannibalize sales of the newer model, so it's almost certainly going to be retired.
Next on the list is the M3-powered iPad Air. Apple tends to stick to annual updates for its tablets, so with the M3 version landing last March, a next-generation iPad Air debut in March is certainly possible. And just like with the iPhone, once the new hotness arrives, the older M3 iPad Air is likely to disappear from Apple's official sales channels. I mean, who wants *last year's* iPad, right?
The MacBook Pro world is also seeing some activity. We're hearing whispers about the M4 Pro and M4 Max-powered models potentially being replaced by M5 Pro and M5 Max versions. The exact launch date is still up in the air, but March is the rumored timeframe. If this happens, expect the M4-based MacBook Pros to vanish from Apple's online store faster than you can say "retina display."
Finally, the Apple Studio Display, which has been kicking around for about four years now, is also rumored to be in line for a refresh. Honestly, it's about time. It could reappear with a more advanced panel and updated connectivity. A February or March announcement could very well spell the end for the current model. I've always thought it was a bit overpriced for what it offered, so hopefully, the updated version will be more compelling.
So there you have it: a potentially very busy spring for Apple. Nothing is official until Apple says so, of course, but these rumors paint a picture of a company getting ready to unleash a wave of new products. And as always, with the new comes the end of the old. It's the circle of tech life, and we're all just living in it… and upgrading our gadgets every year.
