School Shooter's Chilling "Massacre Simulator" REVEALED! What Happens Next?
Current Affairs 14 February 2026

In the wake of the horrific School shooting in Tumbler Ridge, British Columbia, a disturbing detail has emerged: the 18-year-old suspect, Jesse Van Rootselaar, had created a "mall massacre simulator" on the popular online platform Roblox. This revelation has added another layer of complexity to an already tragic and deeply unsettling situation.

School Shooter's Chilling "Massacre Simulator" REV...

Van Rootselaar is accused of a rampage on February 10th that left nine people dead, including his own mother, his 11-year-old stepbrother, five students, and a teacher at Tumbler Ridge Secondary School. He ultimately died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, ending the nightmare, but leaving a community reeling. The fact that this individual seemingly fantasized about such violence beforehand, and even went so far as to create a virtual representation of it, is chilling to say the least.

The Roblox game, as reported by RT.com, allowed users to simulate a shooting in a shopping mall setting. Imagine that – blocky, cartoon figures firing weapons in a virtual mall. It's jarring. Understandably, Roblox has since removed the account and all associated content, stating in a release that they have removed the user account "connected to this horrifying incident as well as any content associated with the suspect." However, the damage, it seems, is already done.

What's particularly disturbing is that the game was reportedly discovered not by law enforcement, but by users on the online forum Kiwi Farms. Videos of the simulation had apparently circulated online before Roblox took action. This raises serious questions about content moderation on these platforms and how quickly they respond to potential threats. Roblox claims the game only had seven visits before it was taken down, but one has to wonder how many potential red flags were missed along the way.

Beyond the Roblox game, Van Rootselaar's online presence paints a troubling picture. Initial reports referred to the suspect as a "gunperson in a dress" and an "18-year-old female," reflecting some initial confusion and misgendering of the individual. Later, authorities confirmed Van Rootselaar was assigned male at birth and was transgender. He also allegedly had a presence on the website WatchPeopleDie, a truly horrific forum, and reportedly expressed admiration for first-person shooter videos of past massacres. A Reddit account believed to belong to Van Rootselaar detailed struggles with mental health, suicidal thoughts, and gender transition. In one particularly concerning post from 2023, he admitted to starting a fire while under the influence of psychedelic mushrooms and spoke about recent psychiatric hospitalizations and a diagnosis of autism. Law enforcement even confirmed that they had frequented the family's home for mental health-related calls.

This case is a painful reminder of the complex intersection of mental health, online radicalization, access to weapons, and the devastating consequences when these factors converge. It's a tragedy that demands serious reflection and a commitment to finding solutions to prevent similar events from happening in the future. What those solutions are? That's the million-dollar question, isn't it?
