Antalyaspor cruised to a comfortable 3-1 victory over Samsunspor this weekend in a Trendyol Süper Lig match that, frankly, never really felt in doubt after the first quarter of an hour. The home side, Antalyaspor, looked sharp and decisive, while Samsunspor seemed to struggle to find any real rhythm.
Antalyaspor Stumbles! Samsunspor Shocks Fans - Wha...
The hero of the day was undoubtedly Samuel Ballet, who bagged a brace early in the game. He opened the scoring in the 6th minute, latching onto a beautiful long pass from Safuri on the left wing. Ballet coolly slotted it past Samsunspor's keeper, İrfan Can Eğribayat, and the crowd erupted. He then doubled Antalyaspor's advantage in the 22nd minute with a well-placed shot from outside the box, courtesy of a pass from Doğukan Sinik. You could see the confidence coursing through the team after that second goal.
Samsunspor did threaten briefly, with Holse hitting the crossbar in the 42nd minute. It was a near miss that could have changed the complexion of the game heading into halftime. But, alas, it wasn't to be. Antalyaspor went into the break with a solid 2-0 lead, and you just had a feeling it was going to be their day. I have to say, watching the replay of Holse's shot, it was agonizingly close. Football can be a cruel mistress sometimes.
The second half saw Antalyaspor continue to control the game. Nikola Storm added a third goal in the 72nd minute, effectively putting the game beyond Samsunspor's reach. Honestly, at that point, the stadium atmosphere shifted to one of celebratory anticipation. It was clear the three points were staying in Antalya.
Samsunspor did manage to grab a consolation goal in the dying moments of the game, with Olivier Ntcham converting a penalty in the 96th minute. A little too late to spark a comeback, I'm afraid. It was something, at least, for the traveling fans to cheer, but it did little to mask the disappointment of the overall performance.
This victory pushes Antalyaspor up to 23 points in the league standings, a welcome boost for them. For Samsunspor, the loss keeps them on 30 points. They’ll need to regroup and find some consistency if they want to climb higher up the table. Antalyaspor, on the other hand, will be looking to build on this momentum. It will be interesting to see if they can carry this form into their next match. One thing is for sure, the home fans went home happy tonight.
