Well, folks, it looks like even the gods aren't immune to a little launch-day confusion. The surprise arrival of *God of War: Sons of Sparta* had PlayStation fans buzzing, but that excitement has quickly turned to head-scratching. Why? Because the promised co-op mode seems to be...well, missing.
God of War Co-op?! PlayStation Store Leak Stuns Fa...
Following its stealth drop after last night's Sony State of Play, the PlayStation Store listing for *Sons of Sparta* clearly stated support for 1-2 players. That got a lot of people, myself included, pretty stoked. A side-scrolling beat 'em up with a buddy? Sign me up! However, reports are flooding in that there's absolutely no sign of any co-op functionality whatsoever. Nada. Zilch.
The internet, naturally, has exploded with theories. The most common one is that the PlayStation Store information is simply wrong. And honestly, that seems the most likely scenario, as it's pretty much the only place claiming co-op exists. Players are frantically searching online forums, desperate for confirmation that they're not the only ones feeling a bit bamboozled. "Am I missing something?" is the general sentiment, mixed with a healthy dose of "Where's my co-op?!"
To add insult to injury, the game's official description only throws fuel on the fire. It talks about Kratos and his brother Deimos, painting a picture of brotherhood and shared struggle: "Experience an untold chapter in Kratos' journey set during the harsh years of Spartan training alongside his brother Deimos... Kratos and Deimos vow to find him and embark on an adventure that will put their training and Spartan spirit to the test." You'd think *that* setup would practically scream co-op, wouldn't you?
One frustrated gamer, posting under the handle bob_th4_build3r, summed up the feelings of many: "I’m so sad," they wrote. "I bought it instantly because i thought it would be co-op… maybe they will add it in the future?" That last bit, "maybe they will add it in the future?" is clinging to the hope that Sony or the developers will rectify the situation. Maybe a patch? A hidden unlock? Who knows.
For now, though, it seems *God of War: Sons of Sparta* is a single-player affair, despite what the PlayStation Store might tell you. We've reached out to Sony for comment and will update this story as soon as we hear back. In the meantime, buyer beware! Maybe hold off on purchasing if co-op was the main draw. It seems we've all been tricked, whether intentional or not.
