Hamlin's Daytona Revenge?! Fans Wonder After Shocking Offseason Drama!

Daytona International Speedway (Daytona Beach, Fla.) — Denny Hamlin has endured a brutal few months since the checkered flag waved on the 2025 season. And after a tumultuous end to last year and a truly heartbreaking offseason, it looks like those jeers we're so used to hearing aimed at Hamlin might just transform into cheers at this year's Daytona 500. To be honest, he probably wouldn't mind one bit.

Hamlin's Daytona Revenge?! Fans Wonder After Shock...

Hamlin, very aware that he might be a sentimental favorite this Sunday to capture his fourth Daytona 500, is ready to embrace any encouragement he can get. And I wouldn’t be surprised if he hears more cheers than boos. Let's face it, it's hard not to sympathize with the guy right now.

Think about it: Hamlin absolutely *dominated* the season finale at Phoenix last year. Seemed like a lock. Then, a late caution threw everything into chaos, triggering those agonizing pit stops. He made the call for four fresh tires, a gamble that ultimately cost him the title as Kyle Larson snatched victory on just two. As if that wasn't enough, he then had to navigate a tense two-week trial involving 23XI Racing and Front Row Motorsports against NASCAR, which thankfully concluded with a win for the race teams. Then, just a few weeks later, tragedy struck: his terminally ill father tragically died in a house fire, a fire that also severely injured his mother. Given everything, I think it’s safe to say that the "11 Against The World" Hamlin is someone fans could easily rally behind.

The boos really *could* very well turn into cheers for Denny Hamlin at the 2026 Daytona 500. Starting 22nd in the race, Hamlin himself has admitted to spending minimal time at the race shop this offseason, understandably focusing on grieving the loss of his father. His dad, Dennis, was so ill last fall that he wasn’t even sure he’d live to see Denny chase another championship.

For those less familiar, Hamlin, now 45, has already carved out a Hall of Fame career, boasting an impressive 60 Cup wins. However, that elusive Cup title still remains out of reach. "It doesn’t matter what I’m doing, whether I’m racing or doing a hobby or whatever that might be. I just haven’t been in that fierce competitor type of mindset in months and months now. It’s just now starting to get back," Hamlin admitted.

So, the big question: Can Denny Hamlin *finally* secure that elusive NASCAR Cup title in 2026?

Hamlin has credited team owner Joe Gibbs with providing invaluable support during these incredibly difficult times. Gibbs, having experienced the profound loss of both of his sons, regularly visited Hamlin’s father in recent months. In fact, Gibbs even arrived at the hospital *before* Hamlin after the devastating house fire. "He’s just unbelievable how he is as a leader and obviously he has been through it," Hamlin said. "My connection on that personal level is more so with Joe, and it’s always been that way since he took over as my at-track dad."

"[Winning a fourth Daytona 500] certainly was on my mind on the last lap last year when we were leading, that we are going to get another one," Hamlin explained. "I’ve just been really lucky to have the opportunities I’ve had to win these races but also been very unfortunate in the Next Gen era to not have won more. I feel as though the opportunity will be there, and hopefully we can put ourselves in position to move ourselves up that Daytona 500 winners board."

Hamlin clearly believes he'll rediscover his racing rhythm soon enough. "I know I’m way too competitive to just go through the motions," Hamlin said. "So as we get on the race tr..." Well, he's ready to get going at Daytona, that much is clear.
