Halle Berry has officially shut down any rumors of her appearing as Storm in the upcoming "Avengers: Doomsday" film. For those clinging to the hope of seeing her iconic portrayal of the weather-controlling mutant alongside other returning X-Men favorites, prepare for a bit of a letdown. The actress made it crystal clear at the Los Angeles premiere of her new film, "Crime 101," that Storm wouldn’t be making an appearance in this particular Avengers installment. "Storm’s not there," Berry definitively told Variety. "I promise you. You all think I’m being coy and I’m being silly, but I’m not there." There's no room for misinterpretation there, is there? I've seen wishful thinking before, but the internet's determination to cast her in "Doomsday" was really something else.

It’s understandable why fans are so eager. Berry's portrayal of Storm in the original "X-Men" movies was a cultural touchstone for many, myself included. Reflecting on the lasting impact of those films, Berry noted, "[Those movies] have so much to say that I thought has been really important, especially for my children as they've grown. So they're beloved." They are beloved, indeed, and it speaks volumes that the characters and their stories still resonate so strongly with audiences today.

Now, for the silver lining. While she firmly dismissed "Doomsday," Berry offered a tantalizing hint about possibly reprising her role in a future Marvel project, specifically mentioning the potential for appearing in "Avengers: Secret Wars." "And while I'm sad I won't be in Doomsday this round, there are other rounds. And I would do that in a heartbeat," she stated. That's a pretty significant statement, and leaves the door wide open for speculation about future collaborations with Marvel. “Secret Wars,” with its multiverse-spanning scope, would certainly be a fitting stage for Storm’s return.

This isn't the first time Berry has addressed the "Doomsday" rumors. Back in April of this year at CinemaCon, she gave a pretty direct answer to Black Girl Nerds, saying, "Keep waiting. Not gonna be there." So, the writing has been on the wall for a while. Still, hope springs eternal, right?

"Avengers: Doomsday" is still set to electrify theaters on December 18th, even without the actual electrical powers of Storm. But, hey, maybe we'll see her in "Secret Wars." Only time will tell, but one thing is certain: Halle Berry knows how to keep fans on their toes.
