Well, folks, college basketball is always good for a surprise or two, and Wednesday night delivered a real doozy. Maryland, a team that's been struggling to find consistency this season, pulled off a stunner, taking down a red-hot Iowa squad 77-70. The Hawkeyes, riding a six-game winning streak, simply couldn’t contain the Terrapins' offensive surge when it mattered most.

Andre Mills was the star of the show for Maryland, dropping 24 points and really setting the tone for the Terps. But it wasn't just Mills; David Coit provided a huge spark off the bench, adding 19 crucial points. You need those kinds of performances if you're going to upset a team like Iowa, especially on their home court. This victory felt bigger than just one game, almost like a statement for a Maryland team looking to find its identity.

Now, Iowa certainly didn't go down without a fight. Bennett Stirtz was absolutely sensational, pouring in a game-high 32 points while also dishing out six assists. Seriously, zero turnovers with that kind of offensive output? Impressive. Stirtz almost single-handedly kept Iowa in the game, twice bringing them within three points in the closing seconds. You could see the determination in his eyes. Unfortunately for the Hawkeyes, Maryland was able to ice the game at the free-throw line, with Elijah Saunders and David Coit showing nerves of steel.

The game was a back-and-forth affair for much of the second half. Brendan Hausen actually hit a three-pointer with about 12 minutes remaining, giving Iowa their first lead since late in the first half. You could feel the momentum shifting at that point, but Maryland dug deep and responded. It’s that kind of resilience that wins you games like this, especially on the road against a team playing with so much confidence.

It’s funny, because just a few weeks ago, back on December 6th, Iowa pretty much steamrolled Maryland, winning 83-64. That game marked coach Ben McCollum's first Big Ten victory. So, this result shows just how much can change in a relatively short amount of time in college basketball. Maryland clearly learned from that earlier loss and came prepared with a much better game plan this time around. It just goes to show you, anything can happen on any given night. What a win for Maryland!
