China Marathon SHOCK! Guns Galore?! What Will Customization Bring?
Gaming News 11 February 2026

Bungie's Marathon reboot is picking up serious speed! After a few quieter months, the hype train is officially leaving the station, and it's fueled by a marketing blitz that seems to be hitting all the right notes. Especially with the, shall we say, *interesting* situation surrounding Embark Studios' Arc Raiders, Marathon is looking like a very tempting alternative for those itching for a new extraction shooter.

China Marathon SHOCK! Guns Galore?! What Will Cust...

But what’s really got people talking are the juicy new details spilling out of Marathon HQ regarding customization and the sheer *amount* of firepower we'll have at our disposal. A recent event, held for Chinese influencers, streamers, and gaming journalists, is responsible for much of the current buzz. From what I'm hearing, the event was a roaring success, with attendees practically vibrating with excitement after their hands-on time.

The most exciting revelation comes from a Chinese review following the preview. Apparently, players will be able to deck out their Runners with faction-based skins. And not just a couple – we're talking "each runner has 6 base appearances tied to each faction." That’s a lot of initial variety! A recent post on X/Twitter showcasing screenshots from the event further confirmed this, giving us a tantalizing glimpse at some of the cosmetic options we can expect. Six skins per Runner, each linked to a different faction... Bungie’s clearly betting big on unlockable content from day one.

But wait, there's more! Brace yourselves for this: sources from the event indicate that Marathon will launch with a staggering *28 weapons*. Twenty-eight! And each of those weapons will have "two or more skins" available right out of the gate. Seriously? Now, I've seen games launch with a decent selection of guns, but this feels like a whole different level. And it gets even better – apparently, some of these cosmetics will even alter the weapon models themselves! That's some serious customization depth, right from the start.

Beyond the customization, attendees also raved about the visual upgrades since last year's previews. Many commented on the "much darker and mysterious tone" that permeates the environments. It sounds like Bungie has really leaned into creating a moodier, more atmospheric experience. That's something I'm personally very excited to see in action.

Ultimately, Marathon’s distinct take on the extraction shooter formula is what truly sets it apart. How will it compare to Arc Raiders? Only time will tell. But based on these early impressions, and the clear commitment to customization and content, it’s safe to say that Marathon is shaping up to be a major player in the genre. I, for one, am absolutely ready to dive in.
