New Dark Pictures Game: May Release Date & Trailer SHOCKS Fans!
Gaming News 10 February 2026

Good news for Horror game fans! Supermassive Games just dropped a new launch date for their next Dark Pictures Anthology installment, *Directive 8020*, along with a fresh trailer to whet our appetites. After being pushed out of its initial 2025 release window, the sci-fi horror adventure is now slated to arrive on May 12th. Consider my calendar marked!

New Dark Pictures Game: May Release Date & Trailer...

What makes *Directive 8020* particularly interesting is that it marks Supermassive's first foray into science fiction. The story revolves around the crew of a colony ship that’s crash-landed on the rather ominous-sounding planet Tau Ceti f. Our protagonist is the ship’s pilot, Briana Young, portrayed by the talented Lashana Lynch (you might recognize her from *Bob Marley: One Love* and *The Woman King*). Briana faces a terrifying dilemma: an alien organism has infiltrated the ship, perfectly mimicking the crew, and she must figure out who she can actually trust.

If you're familiar with Supermassive's previous hits like *The Quarry* and *Until Dawn*, you know the drill. *Directive 8020* promises a cinematic, choice-driven experience where every decision you make has serious consequences, potentially leading to survival or, well, not. But this time around, it sounds like they're upping the ante with a more active gameplay style. Think stealth mechanics and fully explorable environments. The trailer definitely hints at some intense moments, so prepare to be on the edge of your seat.

The game can be enjoyed solo, which is my usual style, but for those who like to scream with friends, *Directive 8020* also features five-player couch co-op. Online multiplayer is planned as a free update after launch, which is a nice touch. And here’s a cool new feature: "Turning Points." This allows you to rewind and revisit key decisions, making it easier to save your favorite characters from untimely demises, explore different narrative branches without replaying the entire game, and snag those missed achievements. It's almost like having a horror movie "undo" button, which honestly, sounds pretty tempting!

However, if you're a purist who likes a challenge, there's also a "Survivor Mode" that throws permadeath into the mix – no do-overs allowed! That's definitely not for the faint of heart. Originally, *Directive 8020* was scheduled for October 2, 2025. The delay was attributed to layoffs at Supermassive, which is always unfortunate to hear. Fortunately, it seems like development is back on track. So, get ready to dive into the sci-fi horror on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC this May 12th. I know I'm counting down the days!
