Relay Crash Cover-Up?! Veteran's Shocking Claim Stuns Fans!
Current Affairs 10 February 2026

Veteran short track skater Choi Min-jeong has a philosophical approach to the chaotic world of short track. After a frustrating crash in the mixed relay at the Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics, she brushed it off with the air of someone who's seen it all before. And frankly, after three Olympics, she probably has.

Korea's hopes for a historic first medal in the mixed relay – a relatively new event featuring two men and two women per team – took a tumble, quite literally, during the semifinals at the Milano Ice Skating Arena on Tuesday. Kim Gil-li, in the heat of the final laps of the 18-lap race, got tangled up with Corinne Stoddard of the United States. Stoddard, who had briefly taken the lead, lost her footing, sending her sprawling near the barrier. Poor Kim just couldn't react in time, and the contact effectively ended Korea's chances in that heat. While they did finish second in the "B" final (the consolation round), it was hardly the result they were aiming for.

"Situations like this are why we say short track has so many variables," Choi said with a shrug. "It's simply part of the game." You could practically hear the years of experience in her voice. It's true, short track is notoriously unpredictable. It's a contact sport on ice, after all. Anything can happen.

But Choi wasn't about to let a little setback derail her. "In relays, we win together and lose together," she emphasized. "Today, we simply didn't skate well." It's a team sport, and she's clearly a team player. There's no finger-pointing here, just a recognition that things didn't go as planned.

Interestingly, this isn't Choi's first rodeo when it comes to relay disappointment. She vividly remembers a similar situation from four years ago, and more importantly, she remembers how the team bounced back. This memory seems to be fueling her optimism for the rest of the competition. The mixed relay was the opening medal event for short track in Milan, so there's still plenty of racing to be done. And if history is any indication, Choi Min-jeong and her teammates aren't about to let one bad race define their Olympic experience. They're seasoned competitors, and they'll be back on the ice, ready to fight for every inch.
