Trump Blocks US-Canada Bridge?! What Happens Next Will Shock You!
Current Affairs 10 February 2026

Donald Trump is at it again, folks. This time, he's setting his sights on a brand new bridge, and it's got international implications. The former president took to social media Monday to threaten to block the opening of the Gordie Howe International Bridge, a massive project linking Windsor, Ontario, with Detroit, Michigan. Yes, you read that right. A bridge.

Trump Blocks US-Canada Bridge?! What Happens Next ...

Trump, never one to mince words, stated that he "will not allow this bridge to open until the United States is fully compensated for everything we have given them, and also, importantly, Canada treats the United States with the Fairness and Respect that we deserve." Now, he didn't explicitly mention the Gordie Howe by name, but all signs point to this being the target of his ire.

The Gordie Howe International Bridge, a sprawling six-lane behemoth, has been under construction since 2018 and is a $4.7 billion investment. Major construction is pretty much done, actually. We're talking potentially opening early this year. But here's the kicker: the Canadian government is footing the bill and overseeing the whole shebang.

And that seems to be sticking in Trump's craw. He went on to say he plans to "start negotiations, IMMEDIATELY," apparently wanting to strike some kind of deal regarding the bridge. It sounds like his old "Art of the Deal" is getting dusted off once again. I've seen a lot of things in my time reporting on politics, and this? This is definitely... something.

Of course, no Trump statement about Canada would be complete without revisiting his old gripes. He reiterated his long-standing criticism, harking back to that trade war he waged against our northern neighbor. "With all that we have given them, we should own, perhaps, at least one half of this asset. The revenues generated because of the U.S. Market will be astronomical," he wrote.

So, what does this all mean? Will Trump actually be able to block the opening of a bridge built on Canadian soil? That's highly debatable, to say the least. But one thing's for sure: this latest outburst is sure to complicate already-delicate relations between the US and Canada. And frankly, it's just another reminder that even out of office, Trump still knows how to grab headlines and stir the pot. We'll be keeping a close eye on this one, folks. Stay tuned.
