Trump's SHOCKING Move: Democratic Governors Shut Out! What Happens Next?!
Current Affairs 09 February 2026

Well, folks, it seems the political temperature is rising even higher as former President Trump prepares to host the annual White House meeting with governors. But this year, there's a twist that’s got everyone talking: it's a Republicans-only affair. That’s right, Democratic governors are being excluded from the main event, breaking with what has traditionally been a bipartisan gathering.

Trump's SHOCKING Move: Democratic Governors Shut O...

Now, a dinner for governors and their spouses, supposedly bipartisan, is still on the schedule. But the decision to exclude Democrats from the crucial meeting – a key part of the National Governors Association (NGA) winter meeting – has raised more than a few eyebrows. It's ruffled feathers, to say the least.

Even Brandon Tatum, acting Executive Director and CEO of the NGA, has voiced his disappointment. "To disinvite individual governors to the White House sessions undermines an important opportunity for federal-state collaboration," he told ABC News. And he's not wrong. These meetings are often vital for ironing out policy differences and finding common ground on issues that impact everyone.

Among those noticeably absent from the invitation list are Democratic Governors Wes Moore of Maryland, who also happens to be the NGA's vice chair, and Jared Polis of Colorado. Why were they singled out? Nobody seems to know for sure. Ally Sullivan, a spokesperson for Polis, expressed the governor's disappointment, pointing out that this is a clear departure from the event's traditionally bipartisan nature. A source close to Polis even mentioned that no explanation was given for the snub. Can you believe it?

Governor Moore, however, didn’t mince words in his statement. He suggested his race might have played a role in the decision. "As the nation’s only Black governor, I can’t ignore that being singled out for exclusion from this bipartisan tradition carries an added weight -- whether that was the intent or not," he said. He also told CNN that the NGA has pledged not to recognize the dinner as an official NGA event. That's a strong statement, and it certainly adds fuel to the fire.

ABC News has reached out to the White House for comment on Moore's remarks, but so far, no official response. White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt defended the president's decision, stating rather bluntly to ABC News that "These are White House events and the President can invite whomever he wants." She did add that Democrats were invited to the dinner, though that seems a poor consolation prize for missing out on the main event. "The White House has been coordinating meetings with the President, cabinet secretaries, and Democrat governors for more than a week," Leavitt said. Okay, but that's not really the point, is it? The point is about excluding them from a traditionally bipartisan event. I guess we’ll have to wait and see how this all plays out, but it’s definitely a worrying sign for the state of bipartisanship in Washington.
