Get your controllers charged and your snacks ready, folks! Sony just dropped the news that a hefty PlayStation State of Play broadcast is coming this week, promising over an hour of juicy updates, game reveals, and general excitement from PlayStation Studios. As someone who's been following these things for years, I can tell you, these events can sometimes be hit or miss, but the sheer length of this one has me genuinely intrigued.
PlayStation State of Play: Shocking Reveals & Game...
Mark your calendars: This Thursday, February 12th, at 2 PM Pacific / 5 PM Eastern / 10 PM UK time is when the magic happens. If you're like me and can't always watch live, IGN will be providing live coverage, so you can catch up on all the announcements later. What’s really got everyone buzzing is that Sony is promising a substantial show, clocking in at a solid "60+ minutes." That’s a lot of screen time, meaning we can expect a decent amount of content.
Now, let's jog our memories. The last *major* State of Play, back in September 2025, gave us a deep dive into Marvel's Wolverine, the next big thing from Insomniac Games, the wizards behind the Spider-Man titles. That alone was worth tuning in for. But the broadcast also showcased Saros, the new project from Returnal developer Housemarque – a studio known for its uniquely challenging and visually stunning games. Plus, we saw some third-party hitters like Battlefield 6 and Nioh 3.
Of course, we also had that smaller State of Play in November 2025, which focused more on Japanese titles. That one highlighted Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls, the Elden Ring Nightreign expansion, "The Forsaken Hollows," and Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined, which, admittedly, was probably more niche appeal, but still had its moments. The point is, Sony has been keeping a steady drip-feed of information coming, but this upcoming one feels like a real step up.
Speaking of what's coming, let's not forget the upcoming third-party games slated for the PS5. We're talking Capcom's Monster Hunter Stories 3 and the enigmatic Pragmata (remember that crazy trailer from a while back?). Square Enix is bringing us Life is Strange Reunion, IO Interactive is working on 007 First Light, and Warner Bros. Games is teasing Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight. That’s a solid lineup, and I wouldn't be surprised to see at least one of these make an appearance during the broadcast.
It's worth noting that with this week's State of Play, all three major platform holders will have had announcement broadcasts within the first six weeks of 2026. Nintendo fans are still patiently waiting for a dedicated first-party Nintendo Direct, hopefully with some news on their own games, and maybe, just maybe, a glimpse of a new 3D Mario title. One can dream, right?
So, there you have it. Thursday is shaping up to be a big day for PlayStation fans. Make sure you tune in, or at least check out IGN's coverage afterwards to catch all the news and reveals. I'll be watching closely – and probably live-tweeting my reactions. See you there!
