**HBO to Continue 'Baldur's Gate' Saga with New TV Series, 'Last of Us' Creator at the Helm**

Hold onto your D20s, folks! HBO is diving headfirst into the world of Faerûn. The network has officially announced a "Baldur's Gate" television series, and they've tapped none other than Craig Mazin, the co-creator of the phenomenal "The Last of Us" adaptation, to spearhead the project. This is shaping up to be something truly special.

Baldur's Gate TV Series: Last of Us Creator Risks ...

Mazin will be taking on a multifaceted role as creator, writer, executive producer, and showrunner. He'll be working alongside Jacqueline Lesko, Cecil O'Connor, and Hasbro Entertainment’s Gabriel Marano, who will also serve as executive producers. Importantly, Chris Perkins, Head of Story at Wizards of the Coast (the "Dungeons & Dragons" people), will be on board as a consultant, ensuring the show stays true to the spirit of the source material. This is key, as any adaptation needs to respect the lore.

Mazin, a self-confessed "Baldur's Gate 3" addict (nearly 1000 hours played!), expressed his enthusiasm for the project. "After putting nearly 1000 hours into the incredible world of Baldur’s Gate 3, it is a dream come true to be able to continue the story that Larian and Wizards of The Coast created," Mazin stated. He also paid respect to Swen Vincke and the team at Larian, the developers of the game, adding he can't wait to bring the characters to life. It sounds like he gets it, which is a huge relief.

The series is set to closely follow the narrative threads of "Baldur's Gate 3," focusing on the start and end of the game's epic tale. It will also weave in broader "Dungeons & Dragons" elements, ensuring it appeals to both fans of the specific game and the wider D&D universe. Mazin also plans on following a similar strategy from "The Last of Us", potentially inviting voice actors from "Baldur's Gate 3" to participate in the television adaptation, giving the show authenticity.

"We’re thrilled to continue our partnership with Craig Mazin on Baldur’s Gate,” said Francesca Orsi, EVP, Head of HBO Drama Programming. She emphasized Mazin's passion for the material and his talent for building compelling worlds. Gabriel Marano, Head of Television at Hasbro Entertainment, added that the fans have been waiting for this and they couldn't ask for better partners. It’s clear HBO and Hasbro see this as a big deal.

Mazin, currently working on Season 3 of "The Last of Us," clearly has his hands full. But with his track record, and the passion surrounding this project, "Baldur's Gate" on HBO has the potential to be another massive hit. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm off to roll a new character...for research, of course.
