Arc Raiders Dev Outlines Expedition Changes After Players Criticized Steep Reward Requirements
Arc Raiders Uproar! Expedition Changes Coming - Wi...
Embark Studios is taking player feedback seriously, folks. They're reworking Arc Raiders' Expedition feature after players complained about its grindy nature and steep reward requirements. The developers are promising a much more rewarding experience in the upcoming second iteration. In a recent blog post, Embark detailed the changes, including a February 25 sign-up date and a March 1 launch for the account reset event. Get ready to send your Raiders into the unknown and start anew, but this time, with hopefully better loot!
The core of the change lies in making rewards more attainable. A key adjustment focuses on the stash value requirements. Previously, grinding for skill points felt like an endless task. Now, only 3 million coins are needed to reach the maximum bonus of five skill points. That's a *massive* reduction from the previous Expedition's 1 million coins *per* skill point. Suddenly, that goal doesn't feel so out of reach, does it? We're talking about roughly 600,000 coins per point now. Makes a huge difference.
But wait, there's more! For those of you who participated in the first Expedition and felt a little shortchanged, Embark is introducing a new catch-up feature. Missed points can be claimed for 300,000 coins each. The system prioritizes coins for Expedition 2, so you'll need to hit that 3 million mark first before you can start catching up on the old stuff. Basically, new players will need to unlock rewards from Expedition 1 before using the catch-up. It's a bit convoluted, I admit, but it's a step in the right direction for fairness.
Beyond the skill point adjustments, there are some other permanent rewards coming with this second reset. We're talking a new Scrappy outfit, an enhanced Patchwork outfit with more customization options (finally!), and 12 additional stash space slots. I know I'm always running out of space, so that's a definite win in my book. Returning expeditioners will also get some nice buffs: a 5% XP boost (10% total if you're a vet), a 6% increase to Scrappy materials (12% total), and a 10% increase to repair value (70% total). These small perks can really add up over time.
These changes are a direct response to player feedback. Design director Virgil Watkins acknowledged the less-than-stellar reception of the initial Expedition. Speaking to PCGamesN last month, Watkins mentioned that "a little over a million players" successfully cleared their accounts, showing Embark's awareness of the problem. He admitted that focusing solely on accumulating money wasn't the most engaging activity and could discourage players from actually using their gear. "So yeah, we're looking at revisions on that," he said, and it looks like they're following through. Arc Raiders, which launched on October 30, 2025, continues to evolve, with Expedition windows planned for February and April as part of its Escalation roadmap. The recent Headwinds update even added a solo vs. squads queue, showing they're actively listening and tweaking the game based on what players want.
