Scream 7 Box Office SHOCKER! Is the Franchise Doomed?!
Movies & TV Series 05 February 2026

Ghostface is back, baby! And this time, it looks like audiences are ready to welcome him (or her… or them?) with open, albeit terrified, arms. Early projections for "Scream 7," the latest installment in the long-running horror franchise, are pointing towards a mid-$30 million opening weekend when it premieres on February 27th. That’s a pretty impressive number, and if it holds true, it'll be the second-best opening in the entire series.

Scream 7 Box Office SHOCKER! Is the Franchise Doom...

The only "Scream" film to have a bigger debut was last year's "Scream VI," which raked in a whopping $44.4 million. A lot of that success was likely fueled by the "Wednesday" effect; Jenna Ortega was having a moment, and her presence in the film definitely drew in a wider audience. Still, a mid-$30 million opening for "Scream 7" is nothing to scoff at. It shows there's still plenty of love (and fear) for this meta-slasher saga.

One thing that might be driving excitement for this new movie is the return to the franchise's roots. "Scream VI" took us to the Big Apple, which was a fun change of pace, but "Scream 7" is heading back to the familiar, and frankly, creepier, small-town setting. And let's be honest, the *real* reason everyone is buzzing is because Neve Campbell is back as Sidney Prescott! After sitting out the last film due to a salary dispute, her return is a huge win for fans.

And there's more good news! The film marks the directorial debut of Kevin Williamson, the original scribe behind the first "Scream" movie. Williamson’s involvement is a huge vote of confidence. He *gets* the franchise, its humor, its scares, and its heart. It’s like having the architect of the house finally get to decorate the interior. That’s a recipe for something special, in my opinion. I’m genuinely excited to see what he brings to the table.

Of course, "Scream 7" isn't the only movie vying for box office dominance in early 2026. Valentine's Day and Presidents' Day weekend are shaping up to be pretty crowded. Warner Bros. is releasing "Wuthering Heights," a steamy romance starring Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi, with hopes of a $40 million opening. And Sony's got an original animated movie called "Goat," produced by Stephen Curry, aiming for a $30 million debut. So, it's going to be a real battle for moviegoers' attention.

Ultimately, whether "Scream 7" lives up to these early projections remains to be seen. A lot can happen between now and February 27th. But one thing is clear: Ghostface isn't going anywhere, and audiences are still screaming for more. I know I'll be there, popcorn in hand, ready to jump out of my seat.
