Super Bowl season is officially upon us, and you know what that means: outrageous bets! While most of us are just tossing a few bucks into the office pool, the truly high rollers are dropping serious cash on the big game. Patrick Everson has the scoop on some of the biggest wagers so far, and let me tell you, they're eye-watering.
Devin Booker & Kendall Jenner's Million-Dollar Bet...
We're talking million-dollar bets, folks. And what's surprising is that these massive wagers are hitting the board earlier than usual. Normally, the really big money comes in closer to kickoff, but this year, we already have four bets of $1 million or more riding on Super Bowl 60. Leading the pack is none other than Jim "Mattress Mack" McIngvale, the Houston furniture magnate, who slapped down a cool $2 million. Classic Mack!
Of course, not everyone can afford to risk a million on a football game (myself included!), but there's still room for the little guy. Circa Sports reported a fantastic story of a customer who placed a $100 bet *way* back in August, predicting a Patriots vs. Seahawks Super Bowl matchup. That's what I call foresight! Preseason, both teams were considered long shots, especially the Patriots. If New England pulls off the upset – they're currently 4.5-point underdogs – that $100 bet will turn into a whopping $310,000! Talk about a return on investment.
McIngvale, never one to shy away from a headline, actually made his big splash *before* the conference championship games. Instead of picking a Super Bowl winner outright, he bet $2 million on the AFC to win it all, getting +200 odds with Caesars Sports. As he explained, the better odds were too good to pass up, prompting a quick trip across state lines to Louisiana, since Texas still hasn't legalized sports betting. Always finding a way to connect his bets to his business, McIngvale is offering customers who buy a mattress set over $4,000 a refund if the Patriots win. Win-win for Mack and his customers, potentially.
The underdogs have his vote. "New England has a good team. Seattle is the hot favorite, but favorites don’t always win," McIngvale said. "It’s a football game. Anything can happen." Couldn't have said it better myself, Mack. This Super Bowl is shaping up to be one for the ages, both on and off the field. Time to get my popcorn ready and watch these high-stakes games unfold!
