Turkish Cup Thriller! 4 Goals, But Who REALLY Won?!
Sports 04 February 2026

Well, folks, sometimes the beautiful game delivers a real nail-biter, and other times… it's a bit of a damp squib. The Ziraat Türkiye Kupası clash between Gençlerbirliği and Eyüpspor definitely leaned towards the former, ending in a 2-2 draw that probably left both sides feeling like they could have – should have – taken home the win.

Turkish Cup Thriller! 4 Goals, But Who REALLY Won?...

The Group B encounter, broadcast live on A Spor, certainly started with a bang. Gençlerbirliği came out firing on all cylinders at Eryaman Stadium. Varesanovic put them ahead early, and then Ensar Kemaloğlu followed up not long after. Boom, boom! Two goals in the first 24 minutes! You'd have been forgiven for thinking it was going to be a comfortable afternoon for the home side. I, for one, certainly started picturing the headlines – "Gençlerbirliği Romps to Victory!" or something equally dramatic.

But hold your horses! Eyüpspor, clearly not ready to roll over and play dead, had other ideas. Enter Angel Torres, the team's new signing. Talk about making an immediate impact! The guy was on fire. He bagged two goals, a brace in quick succession, in the 34th and 44th minutes, leveling the score right before the halftime whistle. Suddenly, the complexion of the game had completely changed. You could practically feel the shift in momentum through the TV screen, I swear!

The second half, unfortunately, didn't quite live up to the promise of the first. Both teams battled hard, you could see the determination in their eyes, but neither could find that elusive winning goal. There were a few close calls, a couple of heart-stopping moments in each penalty area, but ultimately, the score remained locked at 2-2. Sometimes, that's just how it goes. As a reporter, you always hope for a thrilling finish, but you also have to appreciate a hard-fought draw, even if it leaves you feeling a little…unsatisfied.

So, what does this mean for the teams? Well, the draw nudges Gençlerbirliği up to 7 points in Group B, giving them a slight advantage. Eyüpspor, on the other hand, sits on 4 points. It's still all to play for in the group stage, though. There's plenty of football left, and I wouldn't be surprised to see a few more twists and turns before it's all said and done. One thing's for sure: Angel Torres will be one to watch for Eyüpspor. That guy knows how to find the back of the net, and that's always a valuable asset in any competition.
