Hollywood is buzzing with news of another hot property landing at New Regency. The studio, known for backing everything from prestige dramas to crowd-pleasing thrillers, has just snapped up "Carrier," an action-packed short story from the increasingly in-demand writer, Aaron Benjamin. What makes this project even more intriguing is the collaboration behind it: Benjamin co-created the original concept with Jack McCain, a naval aviator and son of the late Senator John McCain. Talk about a compelling backstory!

So, what's "Carrier" actually about? Well, picture this: a high-stakes action-thriller set against the backdrop of a U.S. Senator's naval funeral. On an aircraft carrier. It sounds like a pressure cooker of emotion and potential conflict, ripe for cinematic tension. It's a far cry from your average somber memorial service, that's for sure. I can already envision the dramatic visuals and the palpable sense of duty and honor intertwined with whatever threat the story presents.

Benjamin is quickly becoming a name to watch in Hollywood. He's got a knack for genre storytelling, jumping between crime thrillers like "The Panama Unit" and even diving into the sequel world with "Black Demon 2." And get this: Morris Chestnut is attached to star in and produce his horror short story "Millionaire." That's a pretty strong vote of confidence right there. He's got a history of selling scripts, too, like "The Zone," slated to be directed by Wally Pfister. "The Nest," his Super Bowl-themed Black List script with Gerard Butler attached, is also making its way through the development pipeline.

It seems New Regency is on a bit of a short story buying spree lately. Last year, we heard about their acquisition of Stephen Herman's "They're Still Here" and the erotic thriller "Fixation." They're definitely not afraid to take chances on emerging talent and unique concepts. And frankly, in a market saturated with sequels and reboots (though they're doing some of those, too, like the *White Men Can't Jump* reboot through Mortal Media), it's refreshing to see a studio actively seeking out fresh voices and original stories.

Beyond "Carrier," New Regency has a packed slate. Their horror thriller "Psycho Killer," penned by Andrew Kevin Walker of *Se7en* fame, is hitting theaters later this month. And they're tackling some serious literary heavyweights, too, with an adaptation of Cormac McCarthy's "Blood Meridian." Plus, documentaries on Elon Musk and Jimi Hendrix? Yeah, they're not messing around. The studio is playing across multiple genres and platforms. Clearly, New Regency is looking to stay relevant by investing in stories, and storytellers, that can capture the zeitgeist.
