Ernest Muçi is turning into a real force for Trabzonspor, and their Turkish Cup ambitions are definitely getting a boost because of it. The Albanian forward found the back of the net again, opening the scoring in their comfortable 3-0 victory over Fethiyespor in the Ziraat Turkish Cup Group A match. It's a win that really solidifies Trabzonspor's position and, frankly, their confidence in this competition.
Ernest Muçi's Unstoppable Rise: What Happens Next ...
Initially brought in on loan from Beşiktaş for a cool €1 million (a deal that, in hindsight, looks pretty darn shrewd), Muçi has quickly become a key player. It's funny, sometimes a change of scenery is all a player needs. His stats tell the story: eight goals in 16 Süper Lig appearances, plus another three goals in just four Turkish Cup matches. Not bad for a guy who was, let's face it, struggling to make an impact elsewhere.
Across all competitions – Süper Lig, Turkish Cup, and even the Super Cup – Muçi has racked up an impressive 11 goals in just 21 appearances. That’s more than he managed during his time at Beşiktaş, which is saying something. Those 11 goals also make him Trabzonspor's second-highest scorer this season, trailing only the powerhouse that is Paul Onuachu. It's a one-two punch that's clearly working for them.
Onuachu, by the way, is leading the charge with a fantastic 14 goals – 13 in 17 Süper Lig matches and one in two Turkish Cup games. But Muçi’s strike against Fethiyespor pushed him past the always-reliable Augusto, who has 10 goals in 23 official matches. The competition for goals seems to be bringing the best out of everyone, which is exactly what you want to see.
It's worth noting that Muçi is rapidly establishing himself as one of Trabzonspor’s deadliest weapons in the Turkish Cup specifically. This season alone, Trabzonspor has scored 11 goals in the competition, and Muçi is currently tied as the team's top scorer with three goals, alongside Danylo Sikan (who, you might remember, transferred to Anderlecht during the mid-season break). Shows you how important those early cup goals were.
But Muçi's impact goes way beyond the Turkish Cup. He bagged a brace in Trabzonspor's Süper Lig victory against İstanbulspor, and, of course, that goal against Fethiyespor. Interestingly, Trabzonspor has secured a solid 13 points in Süper Lig matches where Muçi has found the net, boasting a record of four wins, one draw, and just one loss. He seems to be the good luck charm, in a way.
Despite some initial skepticism (and let's be honest, every player faces that), Muçi has really flourished under the guidance of coach Fatih Tekke. Tekke clearly saw something in him and consistently gave him opportunities to shine. And boy, has he taken them. In recent weeks, Muçi's performances have been absolutely vital to the team’s success. He's showing the kind of form that makes you wonder what might have been if Beşiktaş had given him more of a chance. But their loss is definitely Trabzonspor's gain.
