Tom Brady, arguably the greatest quarterback in NFL history, is known for his laser focus on the field. But it seems even he can't help but notice the ongoing debate surrounding the Hall of Fame prospects of his former colleagues. After Patriots owner Robert Kraft was recently snubbed, Brady publicly defended Kraft's qualifications, but couldn't resist a little playful self-deprecation.
Brady HOF Snub?! Will Legend Face Same Fate as Bel...
Brady, a seven-time Super Bowl champion, expressed unwavering confidence that both Kraft and former head coach Bill Belichick will eventually find their place in Canton. However, he couldn't help but wonder if he, too, might face an unexpected hurdle on his path to football immortality, even joking about the possibility of not being a first-ballot inductee. I mean, can you imagine? Tom Brady, waiting by the phone?
"To me, it's not a matter of if they're going to get in, it's just a matter of when they're going to get in," Brady stated on FS1's "The Herd" on Tuesday. "They're tremendous at what they've done in the league. Maybe it's not trending so well for ex-Patriots. Maybe I should be a little concerned here. I think, at some point, this thing is going to go in everyone's direction the right way." It's hard to tell if Brady was truly worried, or just having some fun with the situation. But his comments certainly added fuel to the fire.
Last week, reports emerged suggesting that Belichick, 73, would not be a first-ballot Hall of Famer – a decision that sparked widespread criticism. Brady echoed this sentiment, stating emphatically, "If he's not a first-ballot Hall of Famer, there's really no coach that should ever be a first-ballot Hall of Famer." He's not wrong. Belichick's impact on the game is undeniable.
Kraft, 84, has been eligible for Hall of Fame consideration for over a decade. This year marked his first appearance as a finalist. Since acquiring the Patriots in 1994, he's overseen the transformation of the franchise into a dynasty. I remember the pre-Kraft Patriots; they were a team struggling for relevance. He completely changed the culture.
Brady didn't hold back in praising Kraft's leadership. "It always starts at the top. The leadership, the figurehead of the organization for the Patriots, is RKK," Brady said. "Being there for 20 years with him and watching the nuances of that ownership role was something for me to learn a lot from. How he managed different personalities, how he could fill in the gaps when he saw them and where he saw them, he just did the most unbelievable job."
Brady emphasized Kraft's constant presence within the team. "I believe the owners are the chief accountability officer," Brady explained. "And believe me, when the owner is sitting up there in a team meeting room, the players are sitting up a lot straighter." He also highlighted Kraft's contributions as chairman of the league's media committee, further bolstering the argument for his Hall of Fame inclusion. So, will Kraft and Belichick get in? Almost certainly. Will Brady? Let's be real, the only question is what color jacket he'll wear on induction day.
