Well, folks, buckle up. It looks like the end of the road is finally in sight for the "Fast & Furious" franchise. After what feels like a lifetime of gravity-defying stunts and family-centric drama, Universal Pictures has announced a release date for what they're billing as the series' concluding chapter: March 17th, 2028.
Fast & Furious Finale: Is This The End of the Road...
Yes, you read that right. 2028. That's almost 27 years after the original movie hit theaters back in 2001. I remember seeing that first one in college, and it was a totally different beast. Remember those simpler times when the biggest problem was busting truck hijackers in Los Angeles? How innocent we were!
The upcoming film, titled "Fast Forever," will be the 12th installment in the saga, including the "Hobbs & Shaw" spin-off. It's meant to tie up all the loose ends and resolve the cliffhangers left dangling by "Fast X," which came out last year. I have to admit, I lost track of the plot somewhere around the time they started launching cars into space. But hey, that's part of the charm, isn't it?
It's kind of mind-boggling to think about how far this franchise has come. From its humble beginnings as a street racing flick to the global phenomenon it is today, the "Fast & Furious" series has consistently pushed the boundaries of ridiculousness in the best possible way. I mean, who would have predicted back in 2001 that Dominic Toretto and his crew would be battling submarines and cyber-terrorists a couple of decades later?
Given the series' penchant for escalating the stakes with each new installment, it's virtually impossible to predict what kind of over-the-top action "Fast Forever" will deliver. Will they travel through time? Fight aliens? Honestly, at this point, nothing would surprise me. Whatever they decide to do, you can bet it will involve plenty of explosions, gravity-defying car chases, and Vin Diesel's signature brand of gravelly-voiced wisdom about the importance of family. And you know what? I'll probably be there opening day, popcorn in hand, ready to see it all unfold. It's been a wild ride, and I'm curious to see how they bring it all to a close... or at least, claim to bring it to a close. Never say never in Hollywood, right?
