Well, folks, it looks like the king of kart racing still reigns supreme. *Mario Kart World* is absolutely crushing it on the Nintendo Switch 2. I remember when the Switch 2 launched last summer, everyone was excited, but no one really predicted just *how* much this game would take off. It's not just selling well; it's obliterating the competition.
Switch 2's Killer App REVEALED! Mario Kart Dominat...
The numbers don't lie: a whopping 14.03 million copies sold. That includes the bundled versions, sure, but still, that's an insane figure. To put that in perspective, it's nearly *ten million* units ahead of the next best-selling game on the console. Ten million! You could build a small country with that many games. And I'm pretty sure everyone I know who owns a Switch 2 has *Mario Kart World*, myself included. It's just that good.
So, who's trailing behind in *Mario Kart World*'s dust? According to Nintendo's recent financial report, *Donkey Kong Bananza*, which launched in July, is in second place with a respectable 4.25 million units sold as of the end of last year. Not bad, DK, not bad at all. *Pokémon Legends: Z-A* is nipping at its heels with 3.89 million sales on the Switch 2. But here's a fun fact: if you combine those sales with the original Switch sales of *Z-A* (8.41 million), it actually comes pretty close to *Mario Kart World*'s dominance, totaling 12.3 million. Interesting, right?
*Kirby Air Riders* grabbed the fourth spot, selling 1.76 million copies. And get this: a massive chunk of those sales (around 900,000) came from Japan. Shows you just how much the Japanese audience loves their pink puffball! Considering it only launched in November, those are some impressive numbers in a short amount of time.
The earnings report also highlights that Switch 2 software sales as a whole reached 37.93 million units. While the Switch 2 is thriving, the original Nintendo Switch is starting to show its age, with software sales down 12.1% year-on-year, landing at 108.93 million units. It's a natural progression, though. People are moving to the newer hardware, and publishers are focusing their efforts there. The good news is that Nintendo credits the overall increase in software sales to the variety of titles available from different publishers. More games are always a win!
