Okay, so Bentley is thinking about getting dirty. And I don’t mean a little dust on the tires. We're talking seriously venturing off the asphalt. The British luxury automaker, typically associated with impeccably polished vehicles cruising city streets, is hinting at a more rugged side with the Bentayga "X" Concept, designed in collaboration with the FAT Ice Race. Now, I've always thought Bentleys were beautiful, but I've never imagined one rock crawling. This could be interesting.
Bentley Bentayga vs. Brutal Terrain: You Won't Bel...
This isn’t just a cosmetic makeover, either. The Bentayga X Concept, based on the already potent Bentayga Speed, packs a serious punch. Under the hood sits a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8, churning out a hefty 650 horsepower and 850 Nm of torque. That power is distributed to all four wheels through an 8-speed automatic transmission, ensuring no lack of grip, even on slippery surfaces. We're talking supercar performance combined with, potentially, some serious off-road chops.
And they’ve done more than just slap on some knobby tires. The suspension has been raised by 55 mm, providing significantly more ground clearance. Those massive 22-inch forged wheels are wrapped in proper off-road tires, ready to claw through mud and snow. To improve stability, the track width has been widened by a substantial 120 mm, requiring flared fenders that are 40 mm wider on each side. The result? The Bentayga X Concept can wade through water up to 55 cm deep. That's deeper than a lot of so-called "off-road" SUVs can manage.
For now, the Bentayga X Concept exists only as a prototype – a rolling experiment, if you will. But here's the kicker: the official press release explicitly states that it was developed "to stimulate feedback on an off-road-oriented version of the Bentayga." Translation? Bentley is gauging interest. They want to know if there's a market for a luxury SUV that can genuinely handle tougher terrain. It’s a smart move, really. Why not test the waters (literally and figuratively) before committing to a full production run? I'd say if enough deep-pocketed adventurers show enthusiasm, we might just see a production version of this beast. And frankly, I'd love to see it happen. It would certainly spice things up in the luxury SUV segment.
