Epstein's Secret Millions: Did They Reach a Top Politician?!

Epstein's Secret Millions: Did They Reach a Top Politician?!
Current Affairs 01 February 2026

Lord Mandelson is in the hot seat, folks, as newly released documents seem to link him to Jeffrey Epstein. Bank statements, now public thanks to the US Department of Justice, allegedly show $75,000 flowing from Epstein's accounts to accounts connected to the former Labour MP. Mandelson, however, is vehemently disputing the authenticity of these documents, saying he has no record or recollection of ever receiving the funds.

Epstein's Secret Millions: Did They Reach a Top Po...

The documents, first reported by the Financial Times, detail three separate payments of $25,000 each. The initial payment, dated May 14, 2003, was directed to a Barclays account listing Reinaldo Avila da Silva, Lord Mandelson's partner (and now husband since 2023), as "A/C" (account). Intriguingly, "Peter Mandelson" is listed as "BEN" (beneficiary) on this same transaction. The subsequent two payments, made in June 2004, went to HSBC accounts, with only "Peter Mandelson" named as the beneficiary. So where did this money ultimately end up? That remains a key question.

It's not just the bank statements causing a stir. Avila da Silva's name also pops up elsewhere in the Epstein files. Emails from 2009 suggest Epstein footed the bill for a £10,000 osteopathy course for him. All this adds another layer of complexity to the relationship between these individuals and the disgraced financier.

Then there are the images. Yeah, you read that right. Pictures have surfaced showing the former UK ambassador to the US in his underwear, standing next to a woman whose face is obscured. Mandelson himself says he "cannot place the location or the woman and I cannot think what the circumstances were." Of course, it's important to remember that just because something's in these files doesn't automatically imply wrongdoing. It's all about the context, and right now, that context is murky at best.

The political fallout is already underway. Housing Secretary Steve Reed confirmed that the government wasn't aware of these alleged financial ties when Mandelson was serving as US ambassador. He added that Mandelson's removal from that position stemmed from "things he had not disclosed" – a rather loaded statement if you ask me. Talk about a bombshell revelation!

Mandelson himself has previously described his association with Epstein as a "terrible mistake," claiming he was kept separate from Epstein's predatory behavior due to his sexual orientation and denying any knowledge of young girls at Epstein's properties. He has since issued a more direct apology to Epstein's victims, acknowledging he was "wrong" to maintain contact. Epstein, of course, died in 2019 while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges, leaving behind a legacy of unanswered questions and a trail of victims still seeking justice. This latest revelation is just another chapter in that ongoing and deeply disturbing story.
