Zac Gallen's Next Move SHOCKS MLB! Where Will He Land?!
Sports 31 January 2026

Okay, the MLB free agent market has definitely cooled down, but that doesn't mean all the impactful players are off the board. Right-handed pitcher Zac Gallen, formerly of the Arizona Diamondbacks, is still out there, and he could be a game-changer for the right team. Sure, his ERA took a bit of a hit in 2025, climbing to 4.83, but let's not forget this is a guy who's been a top-tier starter for years. We're talking about a genuine top-of-the-rotation arm, and those don't grow on trees. So, where might Gallen end up? Here are three teams that could really use his talent.

Zac Gallen's Next Move SHOCKS MLB! Where Will He L...

First up, let's talk about the Baltimore Orioles. Their starting rotation last season was, to put it mildly, not great. They were near the bottom of the league in pretty much every key pitching stat. Gallen could be exactly what they need to inject some much-needed quality. He's a workhorse who can eat innings and he's got a pretty nasty repertoire, relying on his four-seamer and knuckle curve, with a changeup mixed in. Imagine pairing him with Trevor Rogers, who had a killer season last year, and their offseason pickup, Shane Baz. Suddenly, that rotation looks a whole lot more intimidating. Plus, with the additions of sluggers like Pete Alonso and Taylor Ward, who went yard 36 times last year, a boosted pitching staff could make the Orioles a real contender in the AL East. That division is brutal, though, so they need all the help they can get.

Then there are the San Francisco Giants. Look, they're stuck in the same division as the Dodgers and Padres, which is never fun. Still, they've got talent and they should absolutely be aiming for a playoff spot. That means upgrading their pitching, and Gallen would be a fantastic addition. From 2022 to 2024, he was remarkably consistent for Arizona, averaging a 3.20 ERA and a 1.09 WHIP. The Giants' rotation last year struggled to generate strikeouts and were middle-of-the-pack in a lot of areas. Gallen could change that. They've already brought in some veteran arms in Tyler Mahle and Adrian Houser, but imagine a rotation with Logan Webb, Robbie Ray, and Gallen at the top. That's a serious challenge for any lineup. Don't forget about Mahle either, who was lights-out for the Rangers before his injury. And Landen Roupp has shown promise. Houser is a reliable guy who can contribute in a variety of roles. The Giants have been busy making other moves too, like signing Willy Adames and acquiring Rafael Devers. They seem to be committed to winning.

Finally, don't count out a potential dark horse team lurking. There are always teams who surprise us, and a team that needs starting pitching will probably get in the mix. But for now, Gallen is the prize and Baltimore and San Fransisco seem like the most likely locations for the former D-back to land. We will see!
