Lexus LC Production ENDS! What Will Happen to the Coupe Next?!
Automotive 31 January 2026

Well folks, it's the end of an era. Raise a glass, because Lexus is officially putting the brakes on the V8-powered LC coupe and convertible. After the 2026 model year, that glorious engine sound will be relegated to the history books, at least as far as the LC is concerned. I have to admit, I'm a little bummed. There's just something about a naturally aspirated V8 that gets the blood pumping.

Lexus LC Production ENDS! What Will Happen to the ...

Lexus confirmed the news in a statement to Motor1, saying they're constantly evaluating their model lineup to, you know, keep up with the times and what consumers actually want. Makes sense, I suppose. But still… a V8 is a V8. The LC 500, derived from the stunning LF-LC Concept of 2012, first roared onto the scene at the 2016 Detroit Auto Show. Production started in 2017, and the 2018 model year marked its official arrival. A year later, the drop-top convertible version joined the party, also debuting in Detroit.

Let's talk about that V8 for a second. We're talking a 5.0-liter beast churning out 471 horsepower and 539 Nm of torque. It was a gem, truly. For those seeking a slightly more… efficient (read: less exciting) option, Lexus also offered a hybrid version. This paired a 3.5-liter V6 with two electric motors, resulting in a combined 354 hp and 500 Nm of torque. A worthy effort, certainly, but it just didn't capture the same magic. I think the sales figures prove that point.

And speaking of sales, the hybrid version, sadly, didn't exactly fly off the shelves. Only 251 units found homes during its entire run, leading to its discontinuation after the 2025 model year. It's a tough market out there, and sometimes even the best intentions can't overcome consumer preferences. I remember driving the hybrid for a week, and while the technology was impressive, the visceral thrill of the V8 was noticeably absent. Maybe that's just me being old-school, but I suspect I'm not alone.

So, what does this all mean? Well, it means if you've been dreaming of owning a V8-powered Lexus LC, you've got a little time left. But the clock is ticking. The 2026 model year will be your last chance to snag one brand new. After that, it's the used market, and who knows how prices will fluctuate. It’s a shame to see it go, another sign of the times. Electric is the future, I get it, but a little part of me will always miss the roar of a good old V8.
