'What the Duck Is This?' — Arc Raiders Duplication Glitch Unleashes a Flood of Rubber Duckies
Arc Raiders Glitch: Rubber Duckie Apocalypse?! You...
Arc Raiders players are, shall we say, quacking up over a bizarre new item duplication glitch. While some are worried about the potential for exploits and damage to the in-game economy, others are simply… bewildered by the sheer number of rubber duck trinkets now flooding the game.
The recent Headwinds update, which dropped earlier this week for Arc Raiders on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, was intended to introduce fresh content and gameplay enhancements. Embark Studios, the developers, were particularly proud of the new 40+ level matchmaking option and Solo vs. Squads mode. However, it seems the update inadvertently brought back a familiar foe: item duplication. And this time, it involves a whole lot of rubber ducks.
Imagine running into another player sporting *hundreds* of rubber ducks. That’s the reality many Arc Raiders players are facing. "Did we come across the duck Santa Claus or something?" one understandably confused Reddit user asked even *before* the Headwinds update went live. "Dupe hacking gone wild? At first, we thought it was some joke because the stash was just full of ducks, but then we realized they were stacks of 15 ducks each." I mean, who needs that many ducks? It's like a virtual bathtub in there.
Things have only gotten weirder since Headwinds. The update introduced even *more* ducks, including more valuable (and colorful!) varieties as part of the new Bird City map condition. This, naturally, has led to a full-blown duck abundance across Buried City and some truly surreal player encounters. One player shared a screenshot of a lone Raider standing silently in a dark attic, surrounded by ducks. "Was doing the pharmacist quest for Lance, heard the telltale duck noise...came upon this silent raider," they wrote. It's like a scene from a low-budget horror movie, only the monster is… ducks.
Adding a touch of dark humor, referencing the recent cyberattack against Embark and Arc Raiders, another user joked, "This must be what brought down the servers. DDOS (Duck Duplication on Server)." You know, sometimes I think these players are funnier than the developers intended the game to be.
The situation is especially frustrating for dedicated players. Back in January, update 1.12.0 was supposed to *fix* item duplication. Yet, here we are, less than a week after Headwinds, and the ducks are back with a vengeance. It remains to be seen how quickly Embark can squash this latest bug, and, frankly, how many *other* glitches might be lurking beneath the surface. Hopefully, they'll address this issue before the in-game economy completely goes to the birds... or, should I say, the ducks.
We'll be keeping a close eye on this developing story and update you as we learn more about the great Arc Raiders duck invasion of 2024.
