Highguard Update: 90% Fewer Crashes?! You Won't Believe What Else Is New!
Gaming News 30 January 2026

Well, folks, it looks like the folks over at Wildlight have been burning the midnight oil! Their brand-new hero shooter, Highguard, just got a significant update, and it seems like they're really listening to the community. Remember all the hype after its reveal at The Game Awards? It certainly made a splash.

Highguard Update: 90% Fewer Crashes?! You Won't Be...

The update addresses a bunch of player requests, but the big news is definitely the claimed 90 percent reduction in crashes. Let's be honest, a shaky launch can really kill a game's momentum, so this is a huge win for Wildlight. Stability is king, especially in a fast-paced shooter like this one. No one wants to be booted back to the desktop mid-firefight!

Beyond the stability improvements, they've also added a much-requested crouch toggle option. I know, it sounds like a small thing, but for many players, it's a game-changer. And console players, rejoice! You're finally getting field-of-view sliders. That's a big step towards giving players more control over their experience.

Now, there's a little quirk in the patch notes that caught my eye: apparently, toggling into ADS (Aim Down Sights) and then tapping sprint can accidentally swap your scope. This is particularly annoying on a controller, where remapping buttons isn't always an option. Wildlight acknowledges this and says they're working on a fix for console players. PC players who use toggle ADS might want to rebind that scope swap key in the meantime. Just a little heads-up there.

They're still working on getting Motion Blur and Depth of Field options fully functional, but they promise those are coming soon. I know some people are really sensitive to those effects, so hopefully, those options will arrive sooner rather than later.

It's worth remembering that Highguard had a pretty massive influx of players right after launch, which, naturally, highlighted some of the game's initial shortcomings. Some players weren't thrilled with the map sizes or the 3v3 format. However, it's great to see Wildlight addressing these concerns and continuing to refine the game. Even other developers are showing support. The folks at 1047 Games, who made Splitgate: Arena Reloaded, chimed in with a encouraging message, reminding everyone that no game is perfect on day one, and that's absolutely true.

All in all, this update seems like a solid step in the right direction for Highguard. It shows that Wildlight is committed to listening to their community and improving the game. It will be interesting to see how things evolve as they continue to iterate. I know I'll be keeping an eye on it!
