Borderlands 4 Update: Photo Mode Arrives, But Is It Enough?!
Gaming News 29 January 2026

Well, folks, the wait is finally over for all you aspiring Borderlands 4 photographers out there. Today's major update has dropped, and the biggest news? Photo Mode is officially here! I know, I know, it's been a long time coming. It feels like we've been asking Gearbox for this since the game launched back in '24.

Borderlands 4 Update: Photo Mode Arrives, But Is I...

Remember all those stunning vistas on Pandora and the neon-drenched streets of Promethea? Now you can capture them in all their glory, frame your favorite Vault Hunter in a badass pose, or immortalize that perfect headshot on a Psycho. The possibilities, my friends, are endless. It's something I've personally been looking forward to for ages – some of the environments in this game are just begging to be screenshotted, and the action can get so over-the-top that you need to freeze-frame it to truly appreciate it.

But hold on, there's more to this update than just pretty pictures. The official Borderlands 4 website spilled the beans on some other significant changes, too. It looks like Harlowe's Zero-Point Action Skill is getting a rework. From what I understand, they're aiming to make the whole skill tree feel more impactful. And let's be honest, it needed it. Some of the Zero-Point skills felt a little...underwhelming, to say the least. Hopefully, this rework will make Harlowe an even more formidable force on the battlefield.

Speaking of making things more formidable, the update also tweaks Ultimate Vault Hunter Mode. Now, UVHM levels will increase dedicated loot drop levels. This should be a welcome change for players who are grinding for specific gear. Finally, a better way to target those elusive drops without completely relying on RNGesus. It's always nice to see Gearbox listening to player feedback and addressing the pain points in the endgame.

As creative director Graeme Timmins explained last year, the Photo Mode delay wasn't due to a lack of interest but rather a prioritization of core gameplay. "I had us prioritize polishing some other elements, more core to the moment-to-moment experience," Timmins said. Fair enough. A solid foundation is always crucial, and honestly, the Borderlands 4 experience has been pretty smooth since launch. He did assure everyone it was always planned, and they were just making sure the foundation was as solid as possible first. It's good to see they finally delivered on that promise.

Gearbox even included a developer's note about the Harlowe changes. They are pretty thorough in explaining why they are tweaking the tree. "We’re making several changes to Zero-Point as another step towards making this skill tree feel more satisfying and better balanced relative to Harlowe’s other trees. Because we're changing the fundamental behavior of Zero-Point to include the old Inertia Augment behavior in the base skill, we want to see how these changes balance out before doing more work in the rest of the tree." They seem committed to making meaningful changes and are closely monitoring player feedback.

So, fire up your consoles, update your game, and get ready to unleash your inner photographer. I'm personally excited to see what kind of amazing screenshots the community comes up with. And of course, I'll be diving in to test out those Harlowe tweaks myself. Happy hunting, Vault Hunters!
