Alright, Helldivers, brace yourselves. Arrowhead is dropping some serious heat on February 3rd with the "Siege Breakers" Warbond, and from what I'm seeing, it’s going to change how we crack open heavily defended enemy positions. Forget finesse; this is about brute force, pure and simple. Think sledgehammers and enough explosives to make Michael Bay blush.
Helldivers 2: Siege Breakers Warbond Arrives - Is ...
The official PlayStation Blog post, penned by Arrowhead’s community manager, lays it out plain and simple: this Warbond is for those of us who get a little… frustrated by those pesky fortifications. They want us to "smash through [...] towering foe with impenetrable fortifications." I don't know about you, but the mental image alone has me itching to jump back into the fight.
The star of the show, without a doubt, is the CQC-20 Breaching Hammer. Forget gentle persuasion; this thing is designed to rearrange enemy architecture with extreme prejudice. We're talking direct impact AND explosive charges. I can already picture the glory – and the collateral damage – of using this bad boy. Beyond the hammer, they are also giving us a revamped LAS-16 Trident. Apparently, instead of 3 beams, you will now be able to fire six! Can you say pure chaos?
But the explosive fun doesn't stop there. The GL-28 Belt-Fed Grenade Launcher promises a "non-stop explosive barrage." The word “non-stop” is doing some serious heavy lifting there. I'm picturing a stream of grenades turning entire bug nests (or Automaton outposts) into smoking craters. Accuracy? Maybe not the highest. Fun factor? Off the charts.
Of course, it wouldn't be a proper Warbond without some cosmetic goodies. New skins, armor sets, capes, and banners are all part of the package. And… a throwable shield? Okay, I'm intrigued. I'm not entirely sure how that'll play out in the heat of battle, but I'm definitely willing to give it a shot. Maybe it'll actually protect you from all the hellfire!
It's interesting to see this emphasis on overwhelming force after last week's "Into the Unjust: 5.0.2" patch focused on stealth. That update, which introduced the Commando mission type and the Redacted Regiment Warbond, was all about "quieter kills, cleaner engagements, and new opportunities for coordinated strikes," as Arrowhead put it on Steam. I mean, they even said, "stealth is a tool, not a substitute for overwhelming firepower." Smart advice! It feels like they're consciously trying to cater to different playstyles, which is a smart move. I personally like having choices.
So, get ready to ditch the subtlety, Helldivers. February 3rd is going to be loud. Very, very loud. And I, for one, am here for it.
