Mercedes Celebrates 140 Years With GLC: The SHOCKING Secret Inside!
Automotive 27 January 2026

Mercedes-Benz is turning 140, and they're celebrating in style. Not with a brand new futuristic concept car, mind you, but with a special edition of a model that's already on its way out. Talk about a bittersweet send-off. The lucky recipient? The Mercedes GLC, specifically, a limited-run "Special Edition 140" model designed to commemorate 140 years since Karl Benz unleashed the Patent Motorwagen upon the world.

Mercedes Celebrates 140 Years With GLC: The SHOCKI...

Now, I know what you're thinking: why a GLC? Well, the next-generation GLC is already on the horizon, slated to hit dealerships later this year. This Special Edition, only available in Italy, acts as a sort of grand finale for the current iteration. It's a bit like a rock band playing their greatest hits one last time before moving on to new material. And what hits are they playing? Plug-in hybrid diesel, apparently. Because, well, Italy.

Under the hood, you've got a choice of two diesel options: the 220 d 4Matic, churning out a respectable 197 horsepower, or the slightly more potent 300 d 4Matic PHEV, boasting 333 horsepower. The latter pairs a 2.0-liter diesel engine with an electric motor, powered by a substantial 31.2 kWh battery pack. The promise of a fully electric range of 122 kilometers (about 76 miles) is certainly enticing, even if it's just a temporary escape from the diesel rumble.

But the real draw of the GLC Special Edition 140 isn't necessarily under the hood, it’s in the sheer amount of kit they've thrown at it. We're talking 20-inch alloy wheels, AMG Line and Night exterior packages for a sportier, darker look, and Digital Light headlamps to illuminate the Italian countryside. Step inside, and you're greeted by an AMG Line interior, complete with a sports steering wheel, brushed stainless steel pedals, and a dashboard swathed in nappa-look leather. Oh, and heated front seats, ambient lighting, a fingerprint scanner, wireless smartphone charging, and park assist are all part of the package. It's basically a features buffet.

Mercedes claims that buying all of these goodies separately would cost you around €14,000 more. That's a pretty significant saving, making this special edition a tempting proposition for Italian buyers looking for a well-equipped GLC before the new model arrives. While the exact delivery dates are still under wraps, expect these commemorative GLCs to hit the road before their next-generation siblings. It's a fitting tribute to a remarkable legacy, and a stylish send-off for a popular model. If you're in Italy and in the market, it might be worth a look. Just don't expect it to be the *last* special edition Mercedes ever cooks up – they're pretty good at this sort of thing!
