Switch Fans Stunned! Walmart Leak Hints at *These* GameCube Classics?!
Tech Product Reviews 27 January 2026

Alright folks, buckle up, because the rumor mill is churning again, and this time it involves everyone's favorite Italian plumber and a potential blast from the GameCube past. A recent Walmart advertisement, spotted on their website, is fueling speculation that Nintendo is about to drop some serious GameCube heat onto the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack. I'm talking *Pikmin 2* and, more importantly, *Metroid Prime 2: Echoes*. Yep, you read that right.

Switch Fans Stunned! Walmart Leak Hints at *These*...

Now, hold your horses before you get *too* excited. Neither of these titles is currently available on the service, making their appearance in the ad a pretty big deal. It’s the *Metroid Prime 2* bit that's really got people talking, though. See, fans have been practically begging for a full-blown remake of *Echoes*, and the idea that Nintendo might just be offering the original GameCube version through the online service has sparked a bit of a debate. Are we talking a quick and easy port, or is something bigger in the works? That's the question on everyone's lips.

Personally, I can see both sides. Sure, a full remake would be amazing, but getting to experience the original *Metroid Prime 2* on the Switch is still pretty tempting. And some will argue that the Wii version addressed many of the original's issues. I'm old enough to remember the original release and, let's be honest, it had some balancing quirks. The Wii version smoothed those out nicely. *Pikmin 2*, thankfully, got a Switch remaster just last year, so that one is less controversial.

Of course, this isn't the first time a retailer has jumped the gun on a Nintendo announcement. Remember last October when Target seemingly leaked the addition of *Luigi's Mansion* to Nintendo Switch Online? It happened just before Nintendo officially confirmed it. So, there's a decent chance that this Walmart ad is legit. History does repeat itself. We see these kinds of “oops” moments fairly often in the gaming world, and honestly, they generate a ton of buzz, which I am contributing to right now.

The timing is interesting too. With rumblings of a potential Nintendo Direct presentation coming sometime in February, an official reveal of *Metroid Prime 2* and *Pikmin 2* on Nintendo Switch Online seems increasingly likely. Of course, before we get to any earth-shattering announcements, Nintendo is slated to host a Nintendo Direct this week focused on *Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream*. That’s following a Nintendo Direct last weekend which debuted a new trailer for the *Super Mario Galaxy Movie*. So Nintendo has a busy schedule.

So, keep your eyes peeled, folks. This is definitely a story to watch. And hey, maybe it's time to dust off that old GameCube and give *Metroid Prime 2* another spin, just in case. You know, for research purposes.
