US Strikes Imminent?! High-Value Iranian Officials Targeted!
Current Affairs 27 January 2026

The drums of war seem to be beating louder again in the Middle East, folks. According to RT.com, citing Middle East Eye (MEE), the US is reportedly considering some seriously aggressive action against Iran – we're talking precision strikes aimed at specific Iranian officials and military commanders. This isn't just sabre-rattling; it's about targeting individuals blamed for the deaths during those recent, and very ugly, anti-government protests.

US Strikes Imminent?! High-Value Iranian Officials...

Now, let's be clear, those protests were brutal. We're talking about potentially 3,000 people dead, including both protestors and security forces. Iran, predictably, is pointing fingers at the US and Israel, claiming they're the ones stirring the pot. Supreme Leader Khamenei even went so far as to say that Iran "defeated the US" after things calmed down. Bold claims, to say the least.

MEE is reporting that these strikes on what they call "high-value" Iranian targets could happen sooner rather than later – possibly even this week. What's apparently causing the biggest headache in the White House right now is figuring out how Iran will retaliate. And let's face it, retaliation is almost guaranteed. You don't launch strikes on another nation's leadership without expecting some kind of payback.

Trump's comments to Axios haven't exactly calmed the waters. He said the situation with Iran is "in flux" – which is putting it mildly. Then he mentioned the Pentagon deploying a "big armada" near Iran, "bigger than Venezuela." Remember that whole situation with Venezuela? It's hard to forget such an unseemly situation, and that's not exactly a comforting comparison, is it? Central Command has also confirmed that the USS Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier strike group is now in the area, having just sailed over from the South China Sea. A show of force, undoubtedly.

Interestingly, this isn’t the first time we've heard whispers of imminent strikes on Iran. Back in January, Reuters was reporting that an attack was "imminent," but Trump supposedly called it off at the last minute. Rumor has it that pressure from the Gulf States and Israel influenced that decision. It really makes you wonder about the backroom deals that are going on – and what the real motives are.

Iran, naturally, is warning the US against any "miscalculations." They’ve reportedly even told their neighbors that they might target US bases in the Middle East if Washington goes through with any threats. Remember that strike on the al-Udeid air base in Qatar after the US bombed Iranian nuclear facilities last June? Damage was limited because the Iranians supposedly gave Washington a heads-up. It's a dangerous game of chess they're playing, and frankly, it's enough to make anyone nervous.
